Graha was boosted to 81 (from 80). Trusts skip level 80. Estinien joined for EW at level 81. That's it.
What would be better is if trusts would get as much exp as the player. EW Dungeon exp was boosted for players (i believe as early as 6.1) but not for trusts. They now need 1-2 dungeon runs per dungeon for ShB but need 5(!) runs per dungeon for EW to do the next one.
Will put you on ignore if you can't form a logical argument but argue nonetheless
The trusts are easy to level, just extremely time consuming. Though Thancred is the worst to level though...
But you can just take your choice of tank and put together a team, go pull a pack of mobs and throw some AoEs to make sure you keep aggro and go afk as they kill the enemies and the healer keeps you alive. You only really have to do the boss fights.
Nope, that's wrong. They started at 81 when EW came out.
Go look at any discussion about optimal grinding trust. There's no mention of LVL 80.

That's not a great indicator of anything. There aren't any relevant discussions in the first few pages of google search results that even acknowledge the existence of Trusts prior to Lv80, though we all know they exist.
Are the EW Trusts separate entities from the ShB trusts? Do you level ShB Urianger from 71 to 80 separately from leveling EW Urianger from 81 to 90? Do Trusts instantly upgrade to Lv81 upon unlocking the Lv81 dungeon for the Trust system even if they're still Lv71? Do you have to level Trusts all the way from 71 to 90 if you didn't get them to 80 before unlocking the Lv81 dungeon for the Trust system?
Nothing I read answers these questions and my archive footage from the early EW days doesn't seem to include any of my Trust plays prior to having everyone around Lv89.

What i found a while back always claimed that all the trust would be set to lvl 81 with EW's release. Typical great journalism, because guess what: it is false. They missread a live letter or smth. That's not a great indicator of anything. How it actually is:
- Most trusts start at lvl 71
- Exarch/Graha started at lvl 80
- Estinien starts at lvl 81
- Ryne can only do ShB dungeons and her maximal lvl is 80
- Estinien can only do EW dungeons
- For EW content Alphinaud is a Sage instead of a carbuncle scholar (said to be a "Healer" which was changed to "Academic" - at least that would be the german translation)
- For all but Ryne lvl 80 was scrapped with EW's release; now they go from 79 to 81 directly. Exp gets set to 0 though for level 81
- Exp for trust was boosted (with 6.0 i think) for ShB dungeons
Sources: what i read and my experience
Added: Since a lot of people claim all their trusts start at lvl 81, first: show me your Ryne. Second: idk if it actually is supposed to be like that or a bug (not having them be set to 81). I did not do any runs with trusts before i finished EW, but i did look at the menu and listened to their voice lines before finishing EW.

I did level them all in Shadowbringers (to 80). I just decided I'm not doing it anymore after that because it's tedious. Despite only leveling them to 80, they are all 81, regardless of glamour or duty selection, except Ryne who is still 80 and Zero who is 90.That's not a great indicator of anything. There's no point in leveling them for completionist reasons if SE will just do it for me with the release of Dawntrail.

TLDR of this post is the usual from the FFXIV forums
"please let me pay for everything so I dont have to do anything in the game that requires a minuscule effort"
yall are actually having a proper discussion about this while the fact is, people like OP should just play a singleplayer game if they dont want to do any sort of effort and then they can just modify the levels and even the money if their heart wishes to since its singleplayer, this is an MMORPG, stop trying to get milked for more money because you cant do any sort of effort, its so weird, just dont play the game if you dont have time already and do something else with your time, the laziness on these forums is off the charts
They could add in better rewards for the Trust system, because currently there's almost no incentive to invest time in leveling them when technically the Duty support can achieve the same thing (and better because you can go for a few extra duties).
A shame that the perfect excuse for a reward is already monetized with the store, and that is the Scion's glamours.
