And yes I'm serious about all my posts. Painting someone you don't like or disagree with as a troll to demean and downplay their opinion's value ain't it.

If you're wondering why I'm aggro about timegate, I see steering people to timegate shticks as a copy of what Blizzard does, which drives me up the wall. Copying industry practices to farm player sunk costing rather than letting them value the IP naturally is a sticking point.

Weekly Vault and Raid Lockouts got me to quit WoW. Sure, mythic+ was engaging and fun, but the timegate loot made it feel like the loot was meaningless and devoid of respecting effort. I do not want a repeat of this dropout in FFXIV as this game is of a higher quality, and I feel strongly for wanting it to feel worthwhile to engage with.
If you don't like weekly lockouts in raid why did you ever go to wow it's been that way since the first raids released I know when I started in 2005 it was like that already and I call you a troll not because I disagree or dislike you not anything that petty but because I figure you're a troll or you're just dumb because raid lockout isn't anything to get to keep people Sub in this game, the thing to keep people sub in this game is the risk of housing being demo. Square enix creates the shortage in housing which makes demand extremely high so you get a house you feel obligated to stay or risk losing it. That's why things like dynamis has almost no mediums or large plots open for FC or for personal yet doesn't have a lot of active players on it, the players transferred in bought their houses and then DC travel back to wherever they want to do content and come back just to make sure their house is ok.

Just because it was always a thing does not mean it was okay. Nor am I a 2005 player, mmos are pretty recent for me overall.

I'm sorry but the copypasted claim I've seen is that lockouts are a thing as developers for various studios are worried players will get what they want too fast and quit. That is bad for subscriptions. This is also why in another thread I offered alternative modes of loot progression.

I'm in the proverbial camp where I won't unsub if I hit ilvl cap, but making me go nowhere waiting 6 days out of 7 will. Hitting ilvl cap is when you round out your experience helping others of lesser ilvl or farming for low % droprate cosmetics or doing reputation grinds.

Thank you for mentioning about housing plot demolitions though, I was unaware of that. I still don't have a house in FFXIV.

I don't think all time gated content exists because of WoW, as MMOs have always had this in there design. It is a bit silly for stuff in WoW when they do lockouts for specific progression systems or unlocking certain content, however for gearing with raid loot it makes sense because if you can just go and farm the same boss in one week for all your BiS drops then it would ruin the incentive to replay content. If I can farm out my BiS gear set first week of the tier, I now have no reason to do any of the current raid content for the next 8+ months. I do think after a certian point the gear lockout should be removed, since its so late into the tier that gear doesn't matter outside of week 1/2 of a raid, however removing it overall would just ruin the initial need to incentivize playing the raid tier, especially when the raid tier is the only real incentive to play the game right now.

This is why one idea is to make the maximum ilvl be timegated, rather than the gear drops themselves. One piece could be 600 one week, but the next if you refarm it it's now 605. This way it's depreciating returns as you're rounding out your set if you hit the cap, rather than a full stop no more loot for the week cap. This would also make groups progress through lower difficulty modes first, rather than cheese their way through the hardest mode out the door.

In FFXIV you have so many classes/jobs you'll never run out of gear to farm for if allowed to. One of my retainers is FILLED with 130/270/400/530 poetic gear for jobs I've yet to even touch once. Just the ability to farm ahead was enough to get me to mass grind poetics.

Ah you see, I have a different mentality here. I want to progressively learn bosses in random groups going in blind, and have a reason to incrementally do it. Lots of trial and error. In WoW you spend hours clearing trash, raid prepping, summoning people in, etc. That means in WoW doing something for nothing is a huge loss. I do admit you're immediately "just doing the boss" in FFXIV so starting over if a group falls apart is much less abrasive. I also need to be able to repeat what I've learned, only being able to complete difficult content once a week will not and cannot hold my attention.

What's the reason you won't farm reputation/cosmetics or help others 6 days out of 7 then? Anything you'd do at the end of the ilvl grind you can also do in between lockouts, that's how this game is supposed to be played.

People with little time can skip the optional grinds and just focus on gear, and people with a lot of time can get the gear and also spend time on cosmetics, hard to get achievements or different social aspects. Next week players are all on the same level with no advantages gained from grinding. It's like that by design.

You can complete the same savage boss multiple times per week to practice it.

Hot take: I wish this game had MORE content that you need an FC for.

Uh ... welcome to the gene? Sadly this doesn't sound like it's the gene for you from the sound of it. You're basically complaining about one of the core aspect of the gene that had existed since the beginning of its time, going back at least 30-40 years.

It's not a "claim". It has been history proven time and time again, it's a fact and that fact won't change no matter how much you don't want to believe it. There were a few MMO that was released with no time-gate content (i.e GW2) and quickly learnt it's not sustainable and have to re-introduce time-gate.

So if you want to prove "your" claim, go ahead and cite your own example, preferably one that actually exist and not from your own projection and speculation, we'll wait.

But M+ is literally the place where loot is NOT timegated. You can run m+ all day long and get gear every single run...

He doesnt want the m+ vault, that's his problem, he wants mythic level gear from every single m+ run, so that he can complain in about a week time that theres no content left for him to do and how "timegated" the game is while waiting for the next patch

    actual troll tbh
