Didn't play FFXI but yea, that would be a nice way to go about it.
my guess is what happened as far as the op is concerned, is this. The lv 50 was killing everthing, they got to the boss and the op and his friends complained to the lv 50 that they wanted to get EXP. so the lv 50 let them have at it. I've done behest where myself and another couldn't beat it cause it was my first time and we were not geared to beat it.
even though PLing is allowed currently in the game, that doesn't mean that everyone wants to be PLed.
overall, behest is something the original team put in and will not be modified in the 1.0 version of the game. it will probably be different in 2.0

everything needs a level cap, that way no spamming content solo thats made for partys.
Let's get this straight people he Is Doing Something Wrong but he is not breaking the rules. People can act in an immoral way and still be acting within the letter of the law.
I have always thought that upon joying Behest, participants should be auto-grouped into a single party that way a solo individual can not claim Behest mobs.

Like we've said before, that would not solve the problem. He'd still be ruining the party by joining it.

And as we said before on this very thread, the solutions to all these woes already exist.

Without knowing all the facts at hand, what is being described by the OP is jackassery. If someone came up with a real solution for that, he/she would be certain to win the nobel prize. While there is no reason to act in the manner being described, there is a reason for higher level players to participate in behests, whether you personally agree with them or not.
If there was a forced party system, then the OP still wouldn't have gotten xp for the mobs and the 50 still wouldn't have had to kill the boss mobs at the end of the behest. If there was a level cap, the 50 would have been lowered to the max level of the behest, which still would have caused the mobs to spawn at the same rank they did originally. None of the solutions presented here would have changed the OP's problem, short of communicating, understanding that both sides have something to gain and acting accordingly.
I have to ask, what reason is there to kill the mobs, but not the boss?
I just did a behest in Nanawa Mines, and the other person was a JP THM, who was actually level 37. He invited me (on my 33 CON) to a PT, and we killed all the mobs. Yet when the boss spawned, I started fighting it, and he just stood there while I solo'd it.
Aren't the achievements for completing behests, not just participating in them?
want to know the reason? its pretty simpleI have to ask, what reason is there to kill the mobs, but not the boss?

OP probly got all pissy and started going off on the person hes whining about the moment he killed the first mob in behest outside the group. this happens ALOT.
lack of communication, which leads to someone feeling wronged, and instead of working out something, they go overboard, start yelling, screaming and insulting, and then feel like they have been majorly wronged still when the other person doesnt change their ways.
i bet OP probly did this and thats why the guy left the boss up, so OP didnt get any exp cuz hes not telling the whole story
there are always 2 sides to it, and he sure as hell aint gonna say anything that would make him look bad in any way shape or form
