Otherwise what I can say for sure is that I was still playing EQ when WoW launched and I remember at the time it being considered EQ for players that couldn't make it in Norrath, so yes there was a time where WoW at launch was considered the easy baby MMO.

One of the things that both WoW and EQII used to lure people away from EQ was the ability to play solo and small group which was something that was severely lacking in EQ. Both of those games had much more accessible solo experiences. So I do kind of laugh when people talk about vanilla WoW like it was anywhere near as hard as old school MMOs were. I played it. I played EQII. I still played EQ at the time. WoW and EQII were my break from my hardcore game.
