He or she isn't going to listen. FFXIV has changed and most people no longer see it as "that MMO without mods". Instead, they see it as "the MMO with mods". It's gotten to the point where new players (assuming this isn't a troll) openly advocate for breaking the ToS, as that's now the way to play the game. And, of course, Square Enix isn't going to do anything about it. FFXIV is just their cash cow, they lose nothing and gain everything. And many people in the FFXIV community will defend it.the game, producer and moderators have said its "dont ask, dont tell", there is zero official support for mods,. there have been several mod related threads on the forums... but you do not name the mods. period. can discuss them all you wish, just no naming. you have people on both sides as you will find. after years of WoW I found the attitude towards no mods great, since it meant I could play the day something dropped, without waiting for some mod to update. obviously mileage varies, and some people find they cannot play without them.
Oh sure, it's sweet to see new people enjoy the game. Until you realize that their game isn't your game. They want add-ons to infiltrate. They want FFXIV to turn into an open-air brothel. They want less content so they can play other games instead. And Square Enix depends on their naivety to replenish the player base after so many long-time subscribers are leaving.

I will never understand the paradox of people wanting harder content and third party prgs to then make it easier to clear said content. Seriously am I crazy or are there people on this forum screaming for harder content only to then cry because it's against Squares policy to allow mods. Maybe it's just me
I'm so glad I don't use mods. I hated them in WoW

I'm happily content doing all the content in the game without mods. It's pretty easy and fun to do, and I feel like it's against the spirit of the game to make things easier just because you can. What's the point, anyways? Is your self worth tied into completing Ultimates or ranking 1 in CC? Are you selling your account or making money some other way by playing the game? One of the reasons I'll always refuse to purchase video game money. I guess if you've no other way to make ends meet, but damn if I'm gonna give money to a botter or mod designer that at best neutrally affect the environment I spend valuable time of my life in.
But, I'm fortunate that most of the stuff I want is already there.
Some of it isn't; I'd like a keybind to 'run backwards' for instance, or 'backpedal' if I'm playing I'm legacy. Not just 'hold strafe +back'. Or, an option to use legacy controls but not have my movement directed by where my camera is facing.
The camera lock on function has always been awesome, but it's limited by not allowing you to enter an enemy's hitbox and run straight away from an enemy when in character based movement, so I'm usually hampering my play when I use it.
Speech bubbles would be nice, they make me look at the world more than the chatbox, and they're useful in getting folks attention mid combat in a way that's harder to tune out than sound effects can be.
A minimap ping is something that WoW always had and FFXIV has lacked; I see some crazy bastards linking flags mid combat to achieve the same but hell if I'm going to click that and navigate my map mid combat.
So yeah, they could be improving things. I doubt idle cam or goose was on anyone's addon list of they were coming from WoW at least, so they have good and fun ideas, but there's a lot of stuff that they still could improve upon.

First off, welcome to the game!
Second, I do have to wonder if you're getting the full XIV experience because of all those mods. For instance, the situation you mention where you couldn't find a hunting log mob is something you could ask the community. I played WoW. I know the tendency there was people would get angry at you if you asked about things in zone talk. But it's very different here. People will be happy to help you find what you're looking for. We have a much different outlook toward our sprouts. And I think you're losing some of the positives for things like gathering where it's not complicated to find those special nodes yourself and you get that dopamine hint when you track things down. You might have to stick around in a zone a bit for the right time for them to pop up. Or you can utilize community resources in form of the websites or trackers if you get stuck on one. While PC players might use some mods, there's a console community that doesn't have access. I get the feeling you're kind of dependent on mods and I wonder what in your experience might possibly improve if you tried to go without them.
I'm a relatively new player here - working through Endwalker MSQ still, having a blast!
I don't use any mods. Never have, never will. I am fine with the game's interface and graphics as they are, and I already know my DPS is terrible without a meter to tell me.![]()
