Temple Banneret in The Vault Duty Support

I find it a rather incomprehensible to make a Temple Banneret an NPC party member in The Vault Duty Support when they are the enemy in that dungeon.

Why does this one dude join you in your fight against his own comrades? It doesn't make any sense. It should be a House Fortemps Banneret. Haurchefant is in the party too.

It makes me wonder if it's a localization mistake.

Not all are the enemy. Lucia told us that some of the Temple Knights remained loyal to Aymeric despite his arrest.

It actually makes perfect sense. Have you truly never been in a situation where two people you previously considered comrades took opposing positions and you had to pick a side?

The Archbishop ordered the unjust arrest of the Temple Knight Commander; this is a coup that disrupted the pre-existing hierarchy. Before everyone was on the same side, but now that's changed; people have been forced to pick which of the two new sides they're going to bat for. That's going to cause some shuffle.

And we don't even need to assume that, because Lucia explicitly tells us that half of Aymeric's knights remain loyal to him, while the other half have sided with the Archbishop.

They are literally enemies in the dungeon. In a pile of dudes clashing on the first floor there are Temple Bannerets who you can attack and one who you cannot. From a strictly gameplay standpoint that is bad design.

Temple Banneret in Sohr Kai? Sure. No problem. Aymeric is there with you. He's brought his dude along to fill out the ranks. Cool. You're fighting a bunch of dragons and magic fans.. no issue there.

Meanwhile Xelphatol has a House Fortemps Banneret. They already exist. And you're in The Vault with Haurchefant. Why wouldn't he bring his dude with him?

I really wish they would tweak the story a bit so we can have Hilda in the party. She's such a cool character but she doesn't join us in any of the dungeons.

Meanwhile Xelphatol has a House Fortemps Banneret. They already exist. And you're in The Vault with Haurchefant. Why wouldn't he bring his dude with him?

Because he's joining us as a Temple Knight, not Aymeric's friend or as a representative of House Fortemps.

"A knight lives to serve, Father─to aid those in need! The people need Ser Aymeric─more than ever─and we may be his only hope!
There is no greater calling for a knight than to save the life of his fellow man. I swear to you, on the sigil of our house, that I shall do this and make you proud."

While the promise he makes to his father is personal, he is still doing this as a knight. Count Edmont even asks Haurchefant to reconsider but realizes that Haurchefant is determined to go and relents.

There is no bad design going on. It is actually very realistic for "brother to fight brother" when a faction ends up divided by loyalty to 2 separate leaders.

One of the Temple Bannerets knew what was going on was wrong and decided to aid the WoL as this was their chance. Problem solved. Sometimes the games just make the players use their imagination you know?

It's also worth noting that the specific Temple banneret who accompanies us into the Vault is the same one who previously went with us to the Aery. He's not just a stranger taking our side; he's already an ally.
