Thoughts On: Scholar Pet glamours - Sizes.

I know fairies are meant to be small "tinkerbell" size, but with size adjustment for summoners' pet, why can I get bigger fairies. They are so small compared to say carbuncle. I've been favoring topaz carbuncle rather than fairies for this reason.

If I get my way, I'd say 50%-100% bigger.

Unless I'm mistaken, Summoner pets can only be made smaller, not bigger. So if faeries used the same tech, you'd only be able to get even smaller faeries.

Broadly speaking, it's easier to scale something down than it is to scale them up, because when you make something smaller the amount of detail (geometry and textures) increases relative to the size of the model. However, when you scale something bigger, the opposite is true: suddenly you end up with textures and geometry at a lower fidelity than what is normally expected for a model of that size, which can result in things looking bad.

If the faeries had a baseline size of "small" and you were able to increase their size one or two categories, it would interfere with the

    /petsize all <size>

command, which only works well when all pets have the same baseline size.

Bigger fairies would be neat especially if it was something that only happened client side so they would remain small and barely noticeable for everyone else. I would like seeing the fairies in more detail. Having a fairy equal in size to my lala would definitely make it feel more like we were working with a companion instead of pet.

The fairies have like 20 total polygons, if they were possible to make bigger, they'd be horrendous looking abominations due to texture stretching. It'd look like something from one of the PS1 games

If you still want PS1 Hagrid-Fairies though more power to you, I'd rather they worked on giving more options rather than more sizes (cough cough where is my lovely branch option SE)

I really don’t understand the desire for a feo ul faerie. Either from a lore/story perspective or aesthetic. Maybe an unlockable red/pink colour scheme would work, but I don’t think that the flesh colour would work well at all if they just dropped the small feo ul model in. Lore/story issues are obvious.

So, as I've alluded to in other threads that have the topic come up, I would not have Feo as an Eos glam, but as a Seraph one. I think they deserve that level of spectacle and importance in the kit, and Seraph doesn't really fit the SCH vibe anyway. You could argue Feo does not either, but at least Excog has butterfly VFX and that matches the general Titania vibe. Seraph looks more WHM-related than SCH.

Quest dialog: 'In time, the soul may regather aether unto itself to assume another form, or find newly emerged life in which to abide. The pixies may be one such instance of this.' As such, I would argue that the Elpis interaction, where we are a 'soul with no form', and given physical presence by being given aether to manifiest, is evidence that similar would apply to a pixie, should their soul be present with no aether to manifest physically.

Which leads to the next point: we have a pact, such that Feo is able to cross the rift to the Source. They don't manifest there physically, instead influencing dreams to create the outcomes we need (like delivery of messages, informing Tataru about what the GNB AF gear looks like for Thancred, retainer stuff, etc). In essence, they are, as we were in Elpis, a 'soul with no form', and if we were to give them aether, say, with a 2min CD and 22s duration, then they would be able to manifest physically. At least, that's how I see it.

As for lore, I don't see how it's an issue. I wouldn't expect the number of sprouts who reach SHB and go 'oh my experience is ruined because I knew of the existence of this very fiery pixie because of a SCH using them in...' Wait, Seraph's an 80 skill, where would you even get to be spoiled before meeting them in the story? Open world? Besides that, Summoners are able to summon Phoenix, despite it being in direct opposition to Louisoix's desires (he wants the image of the Phoenix to be forgotten about, so that people don't start praying to it for salvation again). There's plenty of spoiler-tastic minions, SE spoils the identity of the final boss of the expansion with each X:1 trailer because the Extreme is shown for 3 seconds in them, not to mention all the Triple Triad cards. if there are any 'lore/story issues that are obvious', I'm clearly oblivious to them because I don't see how this would be even remotely as bad as some of the stuff we already have, especially given that with what I ask (Seraph, not Eos), it's level-locked until after you've already met the character

The question is, was the 'debt' repaid in the battle to scale Mt Gulg? Does 'do not hesitate to call' still apply? And while they give us the rundown on the laws of Il Mheg's 'equivalent exchange' re: debts, does Feo Ul actually care about said laws? Given that they randomly decided to leave and visit the Crystarium due to curiosity, I would have assumed that Feo's opinion on the rules is 'they're more like guidelines really'. If it's to help their 'adorable sapling', I expect the 'mood would take them' with alarming regularity

The vibe I got from Feo Ul is that they will do whatever the heck they want. Visiting their Sapling and having some fun together in fights really doesn't sound that outlandish.

The more sensible option is deleting seraph. Isn’t expedient the butterfly one?

Eos and Selene are both halves of lily, which is the entity/construct attached to the scholar job stone in the same way that violet is the one attached to that other tonberry.

The theming of scholar (military tactician, order) is entirely opposite to the chaotic capriciousness of the first’s fae. The king thing isn’t even their culture, but warped playtime emulating the vöburt people. Not to mention the monstrous strength that’s seemingly attached to the king role - one of the quests in amaro village says that the damage to the mountains north of the playable area were a result of the lightwarden (agape?) being beaten up by titania.

The debt issue is also something that is difficult to ignore given the way other requests have been fulfilled in word but not spirit. The impression I’ve always had is that the whole sapling thing is closer to a favourite toy in the hands of a toddler or a reversed Peter Pan/tinkerbell situation.

To be fair, I would prefer if they just decoupled the pixie from Scholar altogether. It doesn't fit a military tactician. I would much rather if they made a nature-themed healer and gave that pixie to them.
