But that doesn't excuse direct insults at their person, regardless. Neither side should have personal insults directed at them, and that's my issue here.Starting one's contribution to a forum with a wall of text full of hyperbolic statements and unconstructive, inflamatory ranting isn't exactly the best way to instigate discussion or asking for help. It's not a matter of sharing "opinions", since the OP didn't express his ideas as opinions. Groundless bashing is naturally met with negativity, and trying to depict the OP as a poor, innocent, victim of the rabid community (which is untrue) is just intentionally warping reality.

In a perfect world maybe. In the real world, while politeness is always precious, The "reap what you sow" rule always tends to apply.

It is something Yoshi has addressed in his letters, that there will be much more expanded tutorials that will explain in greater detail how to do the basics, it isn't like other mmos for setting the skills etc, and does take a calm mind to figure out.
My advice is to ask the people around you in game, there are helpful people there, and they can guide you on how to do this and that.

Apparently I've received an email, saying "wut? WUT?" quoting the OP's statements violates forum guidelines because a forum poster or moderator took offense to my 8 character post. I'll try to make a more clear attempt at what I meant to say, directed @ the OP:
WUT MMORPG's are you playing, no.. What MMO in general are you playing where WASD keys are not used to move? If not the WASD keys, the number pad? When did it not occur to you that pressing every button on the keyboard until something happens could help you discover a way to move? More importantly, why didn't you read the manual that came with the game disc? Judging by the quality of your post, it looks like you aren't unfamiliar with reading in general.I was standing there ... was not able to move at all at the beginning, then remembered WoW standard KB layouts and was able to move ...
... Who doesn't try pressing buttons?... Pressing buttons is what gamers do, dude...
If you had made it into the options menu my clicking random stuff on the screen with your mouse, left clicking, you'd have found configurations and then been able to eventually make it to a keyboard style settings option. I found it in less than 5 minutes. I can't imagine you not finding it in 60 minutes. In fact, one of the first things I ever do when I start a new MMO is go into the config options to see what I can do.
If you had read the manual that comes with the game, pages 28 and 29 are dedicated to keyboard key placement and key function.
Not only is there a manual, but you can find out what buttons to press on GOOGLE... GOOGLE, man. Just about any search engine could have helped out. Even the FFXIV Lodestone website. FFXIV wiki could have helped you...
This is an incredible exaggeration of fact. You know damn well, you didn't sit there for 1 hour trying to kill something. Why didn't you try logging off, deleting your character, and choosing a new city?for at least 1 hour I tried to attack one of these monsters and was not able to do so.
I don't believe this at all. I'll give you that it could have been a bug, but why you decided to stick around for an hour is mind boggling. Were you running in circles? Don't answer that question.I could not set my action bar on the bottom (was not able to place skills there etc.). I was trying and trying and trying... but sorry ...
An experienced MMO player, or any player in general would not have spent 1 hour trying to attack the first monster they come across. You don't even have to be experienced with MMOs. Even when you buy a console game, it comes with an instruction manual or booklet, as do almost everything you ever buy for your computer or console gaming system. My $4 mouse even came with an instructions and all I have to do is plug it into a USB port.as I very experienced MMO player
You, sir, are not an experienced MMO player.
As I said above, did logging off, deleting your character, and choosing a new city not occur to you? If it had been a bug and you couldn't attack a monster on that ship (I've started characters in all three starting cities, so I am able to tell you were starting in Limsa Lominsa), you could have tried making a character in another city and tested if it was messing up there, too!Dunno what I'm going to do now if I will ever login again to see if something changed.
An "experienced MMO player" wouldn't have given up on the first try. I've played Hello Kitty Online for months and even on that game, I've seen 6 year olds perform better than what you've described in your original post (post #1).
On that note, I feel my original post being "wut? WUT?" shouldn't have been flagged and as "spam/trolling" as this entire thread, most importantly the OP #1 post, is a troll. The entire thread should be locked/closed/deleted. A moderator would have been more smart to delete this thread than to delete a single troll post in troll thread.
If he has a technical problem, he should ask a question, like, "I'm pressing the designated character movement keys, but I'm still not moving! HALP," NOT make a thread saying that the game is disappointing because he doesn't know how to play a game that he obviously didn't read the instruction manual for during the installation/download/updating. I noticed that the OP was able to find General Discussion, but wasn't able to find the Technical section, which is were people post their problems if they are experiencing problems.
So again, I suggest locking this thread as the thread isn't needed. Even the subject title is flamebait. I don't need to read though 82 posts to figure that out, either.
*facepalm*

Piracy
Pep, I would suggest you take into account your own reading skills.
First of you was being rude as you are again. Second the poster said english wasn't his first lanuage. I understood him pretty well. And so did enough ppl who decided to flame him.
Did it ever occure to you, that your attitude is against forum rules?
Also read the thread, he appologieses twice, saying it was just him.
I had issues playing WoW when I first played, and no one would help. Took me a while to get used to the controls as I'm not a PC player.

No, I think Peppino is being perfectly reasonable at this point.
While I don't agree that certain people responded in the most responsible of manners, it's quite clear that the OP was either making things up completely, or over-exaggerating... either way in an attempt to elicit a negative response from others (aka flamebait).
did you read the whole thread. He appologised twice. Don't judge a book by its cover. Sorry but It is possible to be stuck in a game. I was stuck in both WoW and Aion. Sorry but also who cares if he is being negative so are 99% of the ppl who post on here. No, I think Peppino is being perfectly reasonable at this point.

And ppl call me a hypocrit.
:] Sometimes, it takes time and patience to get used to a new game. I have been through lots of MMO's, and am a keyboard player. FFXIV, is still working itself out, and us as the players are here to help the developers in a way.By playing, we are able to help them figure out the bugs, what works and doesn't work. Stuff like this, posting that you're having difficulties at the beginning may influence them to create a proper tutorial for new players.
If you do decide to return to FFXIV, I wish you luck with your adventures.
