A reminder that Ala Mhigo ise still useless

The Far East got a lot more love and attention post SB and beyond. It feels so bad but I guess they did it that way because fantasy Japan/Asia is a lot easier and socially appealing than the turkish/middle eastern setting. But that's a little tinfoil theory of mine for why Far East got the most attention.

Yeah i wanted more focus on gyr abania since it was hinted at for so long then they threw in the far east/doma portion because of referencing it starting with the arrival of yugiri. Then they for some reason decided to put the far east more in focus in the story then last minute remembered ala mhigo for the finale.

Part of it is also most likely familiarity with the source material as it's far more likely the devs designing the content viewed and experienced their reference material in person at the actual locations at some point as opposed to settings based around other regions or cultures. This would make it far easier to work with on their end.

However on the same end it felt like the Stormblood and Endwalker chapters of the story were pushed or rushed along at a faster pace than ARR, HW, and Shadowbringers.

The great yoship once stated "my design philosophy is one where I get bored of being in the same place too long." Something along those lines; I've been digging to find the reference for this, but I clearly remember him saying this when he was explaining about how he designs dungeons and the open world. It's why dungeons, most of the time, are separated into 3 completely different locations. Let's take the latest expert dungeon, aetherfont, instead of focusing on 1 location we start with polar bears and end up in some cave.

In a realm reborn he was held back from having this heavy-handed approach; and it really shows, dungeons like Wanderer's palace would have started on the roof, into the palace, and ended in some secret volcano if we leave it to him.

This also manifests in the msq; oh we're in ala mhigo too long, let's move the story to kugane.

We're weaving an engaging garlemald story too long; let's move the story to the moon and then to elpis. What could've been a deep, crushing, and exploratory Garlemald expansion turned into "The Avengers!" FF flavor.

The last time FF stayed in a real location all the way through, in heavensward, we ended up with the best story the game has told so far.

PS. Even FFXVI suffers from yoship's obsession for location changes at any cost.

I can't stand ala mhigo.

The writers really did Lyse dirty in SB. Much of the SB story involved losing and playing catch up so most of Lyse's victories were off screen while her failures were front and center. We're told she's good commander but we rarely see any evidence of it, leading to people thinking she's useless (see also, Minfilia.)

Yeah that's kinda where I was heading it with that theory. As most likely for a Japanese developer it'd be much easier on them to put more focus on Eastern culture for content. It's still not a very grounded theory of mines though.

It's more likely that lots of things jusy got cut in the development room for Gyr Abania and the Far East because of the shift between trying to focus on two different nations.

Endwalker sorta suffered in this sense too where the expansion locations where kinda all over the place. With Thavnair (personally the most interesting locale to visit next to Garlemald) sadly not getting much chance to shine through with having more meat and zones. Probably my most criticized thing about EW is the missed potential and direction. I still enjoyed it, but it could've been much better.

Lyse might have been the most divisive of the scions but there was still plenty of good characters in the gyr abania portion of the story that deserved more limelight. Characters like Fordola and Arenvald and various others i thought were pretty good and deserved there characters to be expanded on.

It's a good thing somebody with the temperament of Fordola or Arenvald isn't in charge of the law and order of Gyr Abania because Lyse would be in jail.

I think there were more qualified characters to be in charge instead of lyse. Someone like Raubahn or someone who grew up there and spent more of their life in the region.

Yes I agree. Raubahn has extensive management and business experience from his time in the commercial hub of Ul'Dah. He's not a career politician, maybe Raubahn is exactly the sort of leader Gyr Abania needs to drain the swamps after the Garlean occupation.
