Just thought I'd drop this gem here. Kind of an amusing read.

Figured here would be the best place to assess who is excited for the next decade of XIV!

Adding in one of my favorite moments:

That is such a bizarre read lol like it would be more authentic if they just pasted tweets of peoples reactions etc but just some random names etc and the things these players have been saying it just comes across as weird. Oh well go IGN for weird articles XD

I'm excited about a new start, and the graphics update to say the least.

However, a decade-level excitement - I'll enjoy my time regardless I think, but excited time after time for a decade? That's a bold move, whether this remains the case will hinge on Dawntrail.

If they can pull off even most of what they've eluded to in the announcements and interview(s) - Then I'll be excited. The game needs to show that it can continue major systems through expansions. Even if it is just in condensed form, e.g., 1 exploratory zone that is continually updated rather than several. It needs to show that it can go the distance without scrapping them entirely for a new, less flushed out concept/content strand.

Then again, I don't think I'll ever be truly excited because the game is allergic to combining systems, and always wants to keep them separate... How are we in the year 2023 without something like dungeoneering? - It really needs to tie multiple systems in a lot more closely.

Quite a few of the vocal Twitter dwellers that the game now seeks to actively cater to and court. Thankfully the societal pendulum is swinging back towards normality in many countries and hopefully Square Enix will cease pandering to their ilk rather soon.

There is nothing wrong with trying to court them in a vacuum. There is nothing wrong with being mindful of colonial history and racism.

Unfortunately this isn't a vacuum and a lot of those same players are non-gamers who wish to see the game dumbed down so they can press a single button and win the game, while shaming raiders and witch-hunting them by stalking their streams to report the most inoffensive mods, while pushing the developers to turn the game into Second Life.

It's telling that the dominant discourse surrounding FF14 is now about completely irrelevant, non-game related topics like colonial history or brothels (like Kotaku's article). Because we all now play this "game" for secondary, non-game purposes. People don't want to admit it, but IGN articles like these show what people truly think of the game.

IGN is the best place to go for the completely wrong details on anything. If they like it? It's probably bad. If they hate it? It's probably worth a look.
