Volume on/off key (or command, or widget)?

Yeah I know, I can use (I do!) Windows 7 Mixer.

Still, it would be handy and faster to have something to quickly switch FFXIV volume on/off, for example when receiving a Skype call, listening to music, etc.

I'd personally love a configurable keyboard key. Even a widget (micromenu button?) would be "ok" or, at most, a text command. Maybe all three?

Volume text command and toggle key or command

I mean about the toggle option: if your BGM is, for example, 90% and your SE volume is 80%, then switching the toggle off would put them both to 0, but switching on again would put them back to their values (90 and 80).

Without implying that this is a replacement for the request, I find that un-checking "Play sound when application is in the background" in the FFXIV Config program (not in game) helps me deal with incoming calls and things of that ilk.

Again, I think a mute, or volume-control feature, either through the keyboard, as the OP suggests, or a text/macro volume control or sound toggle, would be better still.

I asked for a music mute button a few months ago and was met with people telling me to go to the config menu and lower the sound slider .. d'oh

I would very much appreciate a BGM mute button which could be assigned to a hotkey via the config menu.

For example Shift+* to mute BGM.

Music can be very repetitive whilst crafting or in the marketwards.

I like Mirage's text command idea also, could easily make a macro for that.

Temporary method to turning on/off toggle for FFXIV audio

Not the best method but it's work around for those lazy to open the volume mixer and turning down FFXIV only (for now)

With that NirCmd you can run command line to change volume on specific app (works with Win7,2008,Vista)
Now all you have to do is make a shortcut on your desktop or .bat file with the command line code and assign it a hotkey and you're good to go. Make sure you check the FFXIV application name using the NirCmd.exe showsounddevices
... and no this isn't against ToS or anything, you're just running a program to tell your windows to turn down/up off/on the volume... has nothing to do with FFXIV....
