literally just cutscenes with the recycled jumping puzzle with like two new planks

Speak for yourself, it was fun.
The best thing with those events is the "skip cutscene" button
It's ok to have low standards, dont worry we know
I do have to say though, smol miqos are adorable in the "interactive cutscene"
Tbh after re-thinking a bit, the interactive cutscene was kinda fun, but yeah its still not enough sadly.

I've never cared much for these personally so correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the norm for Moonfire events? I was under the impression that it's almost always been a jumping puzzle with nothing at the top except bragging rights, alongside a short story with a summer themed outfit at the end. Granted, there was that one abysmal year with the polar bear mount where we received no tower and no outfit, but that was an exception and not the rule, and people were pissed that the usual structure was missing. I wouldn't call the event lame for just doing what people who like it all expected and wanted to see. It just sounds like it's not for you. And that's fine. It's not for me either. More and more often I'm coming to terms with the fact that things I consider kind of boring and half assed in FF14 are actually things that most of this community gobbles up and sincerely enjoys.
On a purely cosmetic level, as someone who doesn't watch Sentai stuff at all, I found the costume to be disappointing. I already avoid full helmets on my character because the horns jut out and look misplaced. This helmet is no exception. The body suit as well, hides the tail for some reason and operates as a 1-piece, meaning mixing and matching is impossible. Mixing pieces from this set could've made the event worthwhile for players who aren't Sentai fans as well, but nope. If you simply don't care for that genre, then this event might leave you cold. Or at least, that was my experience, idk. I will say though, Viera are eating good for once. A helmet they can actually wear, that accounts for their ears. Very cool for them, and definitely a long time coming. It's great if you're a viera who's also into Sentai stuff. If you don't fall into that Venn diagram though, then you might not be very enthusiastic about this.
idk, I'm kinda waiting for the inevitable "what do you mean no swimsuit this year????" threads we'll get once people begin waking up and logging in and realizing the reward is a suit referencing a genre they probably haven't even thought about in over 20 years lol. I really wish the devs had taken the time to make it multiple parts. the gloves could've accomplished something nice on their own, but the suit as a whole is such a niche thing that it'll only see the light of day (for me at least) in memey cosplay runs or something.
i mean, the jumping puzzle was brand new in 2016 or something, i dont remember, and you used to have stuff like a maze dungeon (think it was valentine) or special FATEs to go along with seasonal events lolI've never cared much for these personally so correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the norm for Moonfire events? Yeah man I'm not out here trying to defend this event since, again, imo moonfire's always been kinda samey. It just seems obvious that this is what the people want, so this is what we're all gonna get. Every year. Forever.
I still remember the instanced puzzle dungeons that Square Enix used for one Halloween event... and then we never saw them again. Even after multiple people requested them to come back. Most people probably don't even know what I'm talking about...
They went away because FFXIV's instance servers are the run by the equivalent of a hamster running on a wheel while they're burning in the background (/s).
We've had multiple instances of the game crashing, people not being able to access instance servers (Raubahn EX) because too many people are using them at once.
Same reason dots for almost every job went away. Too much for the game to "handle". Almost every single decision is made because of the technical debt of the base 1.0 code that they built the 2.0 code on top of.
Any time you have to ask: Why can't we have this common feature other MMO's have (doesn't have to even be a moddern MMO)? Technical debt.

I dunno if that's really relevant since they worked just fine when they came out. They went away because FFXIV's instance servers are the run by the equivalent of a hamster running on a wheel while they're burning in the background (/s).
