Some people don't like the pressure of setting the pace of the pulls, or have anxiety about messing up in a much more visible and potentially party wiping manner, or are worried about not knowing what they don't know, etc. Most things are easy once you have experience and already know what you're doing, but as a new tank who's never done a given fight and doesn't know mechanics, what the tankbusters are, when to use CDs, etc. Tanxiety is very real for a lot for people and they're not wrong to feel that way. Especially since "/fc O... M... G... why is this tank only pulling one pack at a time!?!?!?!" is 100% a thing that happens.
No not sarcasm at all.... i wrote it down: Tankstance and after that hit things. Not even a Rotation is needed. Just hit it. There is nothing. Aggro ? Gone , Tank swap or other specific techs ? Not in MSQ or Normal content. If you can start youre PC you can tank. Healing is diffrent because you look out for other players but tanking ? All depth long gone and with it all you need to know is how to do mechs and that is the same for all classes even Bluemage. AND CD mangement aka a Button extra every 20 seconds ? Soo in my mind you should read tooltips there is nothing with damn pressure in normal content. Stop making excuses for mean toxic people. Thats on them not the role or the class and it is NOT the norm.

I’ve had a really good response when I say something like, “This is my first time tanking for this duty, any tips?”

Regarding the issue in general, if you are anxious I think you should ask yourself the question: How do you feel when people who are not experienced at a task make a mistake? Do you get annoyed, do you regard it as an unwelcome inconvenience?

It's just a hypothesis, but I think a lot of people who suffer from "tanxiety" or "healxiety" might actually secretly agree with people who condemn failure, which is why they feel the way they do - if they fuck up and someone gets angry at them, they understand and agree with that reaction and they would get pissed because of others in a similar situation as well. That's cool, but you should be aware of it and state that as your belief - "I am not comfortable tanking content I don't know yet, because I think it's inappropriate for someone to take that responsibility without having a degree of experience with it." You are taking on an active role rather than pretend like you're hindered by circumstance.

If that's not the case for you, you would of course have to do another quite taxing task: Disagree with the people who would condemn you for your failure. It's not a big deal if someone's not comfortable - everyone has the right to not be convenient once in a while, including the people who get annoyed by you making mistakes and who have forgotten what it's like being a beginner a long time ago. Among those are of course also haters who love being dismissive of others and seek to flame - you can easily dismiss them as mentally challenged.

Or you can just shut down and pretend that disagreements and conflict of even the most inconsequential and meaningless kind are bad. That way you don't get to do what you want though. And at the end of the day, what's the worst that could happen? If you realize the ridiculousness in whatever answer you come up with you realize that your fear is really an emotion so fundamentally inappropriate that if you took it seriously you couldn't even walk out your door anymore because the world is just too much to handle.

They are wrong to feel that way because they refuse to learn how the game works because if they did this wouldnt be a problem. We really need to stop treating new players like brain dead people who have just managed to start their computer for the first time.

Why is it so hard for you people to comprehend that people have tanxiety?
That ppl can feel anxious over things they have no experience with...
None of you provide useful information nor any advice.
If you dont have anything useful/nice to say..dont say it at all.

Anxiety for Tanking/Healing/ even DPSing ...does exist, and it's perfectly normal to feel like that.
The only way to deal with it.. is to face it.. we must go out of our comfort zone , same as in real life.

    Practice(experience),Time will remove that anxiety..

Do a lot of alliance raids.. spam that *** until you feel comfortabel with it.
No shame to start with the easiest alliance raids..and build up from there..

Nah, alliance raids are pretty chill. Normally only one tank is even needed. So you can try queueing up and just let another tank grab things first. Stand next to them with stance off (just be aware of anything like conal or line cleaves so you may want to stand a bit to the side in those cases), do your opener or so and then turn on tank stance so they can get a head start on aggro but you'll be high on the list in case they go down. You could leave it off and Provoke in those cases but sometimes it has time to eat a DPS. I much prefer that everything smoothly switches over to me without any issues. Watch what MT does with positioning and such. Don't worry too much if you rip aggro since they should be able to get it back quickly.

There are some instances where all three tanks are needed to do tank stuff usually involving adds. If you see a tether, try to move the bosses away from each other until tether goes away, like the snakes on the final Void Ark boss. If you see things eating DPS or healers, hit them with your ranged attack or Provoke so they chew on you instead of the squishies. One example of this is the giants on the behemoth boss in LotA since those can run amok and break the boulders and wipe the raid.

When you feel confident enough, then try being the one that stances up and pulls the boss. 99% of the time it's just keeping the boss pointing away from the squishies and using mit so you don't die when the boss decides to smack you around.

Anyways, geeze folks of course anxiety is real. A person can have anxiety about literally anything and about tanking is a pretty common one to have anxiety about. Hence the slang of "tankxiety." I had it for years in another game, but with this one I feel tanking is designed much more smoothly and streamlined and it was relatively easier to get into. Now it's my favorite thing to do in the game.

That said Alliance raids can be annoying to tank if you don't enjoy provoke wars. It's ridiculous. If someone provokes off of me, I just let them keep it. Other than that its a lot of fun and everyone should give it a try. Im glad I finally did.

Pull the boss, put your tank stance on and if the boss is hitting you, face it away from the group.

A goes left, B goes middle, C goes right.

That's all. Everyone is a turbo casual in alliance raids and nobody cares about what the tank is doing as long as the boss is not hitting healers and dps.
