    イフ3戦行きませんか? PT検索からお願いします~。
Anyone interested in 3 battles of Ifrit? Please join using the party search~.

JP parties almost always have a party search set up corresponding to what they shout in town. You can look at that to see if it gives any clue to what they are doing. The spots fill up real fast too in general.

*the last part just means "I couldn't find anyone on the content finder search."
So this is actually quite wrong.

    ---------------------------------------------
SE doesn't need to segregate servers based on language. I see people shouting in French, German too but you don't see that irritating anyone.

All they need to do is to add "auto-translate" in the party search.

Just saw Dural Tharal played by GM...speaking in...French...so should I scream GMs are Xenophobic on this one?

Dural Tharal : Salutations aventurier !
Dural Tharal : Soit !

bump for server separation. it just makes sense. try to remember that it's only a language separation, not an ethnic, race, etc. it's a matter of communication. I'm sure JP wouldn't mind it either seeing as how they really only want to play with other JP from what I've seen.

I think it's unfair to English players, since we get left out of everything JP players try to do cause they don't want to bother using the auto-translate. I would prefer a English or English (Recommended) Server.

Not surprising. I'm NA and I avoid most NA players, too. Most JP players seem to know what they're doing. Until most NA players do, too, it's linkshell onry.

You do know the Auto-Translate in Japanese is a lot more trouble than it is useful, right? Especially considering the vast difference the NA - JP localization of this game in particular has. It's not that they don't want to use it or "trying to avoid other people" it's the fact it's clunky to use.

Also just to clarify, I have never seen a german shout. Most french shouts {I can understand a little}, but like I said, my server is like 50% JP, 40% EN, and 10% other. It would be great if we either had a fully functional autotranslate, or segregated servers. There's almost no point in being able to play with people who speak other languages if we can't communicate with them.

    This.

I played FFXI in japan when i was there for year. essentially you had to type out a lot more of the word to get auto-translate to get anywhere close to it. at that point you might as well just finish typing the word.

Also, like i said earlier, Japanese are very xenophobic. they do that within their own circles. When speaking in person there are several ways of saying something. standard, formal japanese. informal, truncated japanese. and of course the minor difference between how a girl or a guy might say something. this includes any variance in slang you might use between different groups of friends. I had a friend who was trying to fit in with a group and switched to informal japanese because thats what they were using. they switched to standard to 'seperate' themselves from him because he wasn't yet part of the group. think of it as initiation.

this is somewhat lost on westerns. (not saying one way is better or anything, it's just different) as the general opinion is: just say what you want to say. No need for subtle differences. but reality is it's just something they are incapable of fully grasping. to quote that one south park episode, and trying not to be vulgar(With apologies to Jesse Jackson i think): 'I get it now: I don't get it'

Not to mention, the Japanese view this a bit differently. If they do this, their internal community won't necessarily view it as helping people like you. but 'oh, we don't want to play with anyone outside of Japan because we hate the world.' Even though i'm sure many japanese also want segregated servers. it's like hitting on a co-worker. you may want to, heck she may want you to, but that doesn't mean you should.

Segregating the servers doesn't really help anything. it just costs more money. are you going to stop playing because there are some Japanese players out and about? how many people do you think really will? so what incentive is there to really segregate servers? it looks bad publicly for them to do it. it's more expensive. and it reduces the population per server.

I would recommend you submit some feedback on things they can add to auto-translate function instead of recommending segregated servers.

    because
    1) it's more likely to get positive reinforcement from the community and devs.
    2) it doesn't make you look like an uncivilized fool.
    3) it's more likely to happen.

Just to make myself clear, I love Japanese culture and I dreamed of moving to JP when I grew up. I consider myself an otaku of sorts and I can't get enough sake. That's not the point though is it. Stop making me out to be a bigot because you don't want segregated servers. Obvious ad-homonym attack is obvious.
you won't get far outside of tokyo (or even really within tokyo) without knowing some japanese. if its' really a dream, start now and learn some of the basics of the language. playing with japanese players will help that tremendously. FFXI helped me a lot while studying for my japanese minor in college.

You look like a bigot because you're acting like a bigot.

Ottawa may be a culturally diverse city. but it's not viewed as one by the rest of the world. you need to have an open view about everything, including on how people view you and your country.

When people think 'Ottawa' they most likely aren't thinking 'oh, what a culturally diverse city'

it's most likely 'Hey, that's in Canada right?'

with a quick search i can see it's the 4th largest city in Canada.

Not to mention it's less than 1.5 million in population. compared to like, San Francisco which is closer to 7.5 million. and SF is the 8th largest city in the US. Arguably SF is more diverse than Ottawa.

I'm not trying to slam Ottawa or Canada, mind you. I'm just saying you should use a different example. I personally know many people in Canada and one of my very best friends is Canadian. but she knows she has to be careful when she says shes from Canada, and when she wants to show cultural diversity that's not at the top of her list. (in fact it's very near the bottom)

And to further drive the point home: most Japanese don't' brag about being otaku. as it is near synonymous with 'Neet' which is a HUGE HUGE problem in japan. westerners have romanticized this a lot. Saw a couple people introduce themselves as Otaku in japan at a party(westerns, that is) and they were immediately shunned by everyone. Not their fault, they didn't know better. I introduced myself as liking computer games, and got a very different response. so really you need to be careful on how you present yourself if you want people to take you seriously.
