Lol please don't lecture me about cultural diversity. I come from Ottawa ∴ I know and love many different cultures. This however is a game, and in games I like to communicate with people. The auto-translate function is dodgy at best. How many japanese people replied to Lv45 {Chocobo} {Grand Company Quest} {Looking for members}? Guess? Out of 7 people that replied. I'll give you a hint. Its less than one and more than negative one. This is not a single occurrence, this has been on-going for 11 years.


Just to make myself clear, I love Japanese culture and I dreamed of moving to JP when I grew up. I consider myself an otaku of sorts and I can't get enough sake. That's not the point though is it. Stop making me out to be a bigot because you don't want segregated servers. Obvious ad-homonym attack is obvious.

Apologies then mate I didn't mean to judge so harshly, but your original post struck me as somewhat aggressive that's all. I lived in Japan myself for years and always found them excellent to play with. I'm a bit protective you see.

Maybe you're just angry that you can't understand them, so the natural reaction is to reject them and retreat into a comfort zone? Please don't take that the wrong way because i've been there myself. It's easier to go back to what you know than try and push through a better solution, especially with language.

If I'm right or wrong or whatever, that doesn't matter really, I just think retreating onto segregated servers is not the answer to the problem.

It is a problem, but if it can be fixed with jp/na and eu staying together then it's worth working on.

It seems like SE could do a lot with this, very easily. I don't see why they can't simply add a few hundred even auto-translates. Sort by category, type the first bit in your language, see the texts that come up, pick the one you're looking for. You could have a huge amount still able to be sorted in this way. Keep the faster or even have a custom-tailored AT for fights. Hit the button, 1-3. Got 9x9 messages available to you on the fly. Add a layer to square it again.

It wouldn't surprise me if they could even grab a couple bilinguals off the forums to do all this. They should at least make a sticky thread asking for what ATs they'd like to see added to the game.

Edit: Personally I found it easiest to just learn Japanese, but only because I was already interested in learning. I'm noticing it's a long process.

A quick note, I usually go ahead and translate the kanji one-by-one if I don't know it. As for Google translate, separate anything that can be both noun and verb. Be sure to attach enough context so the translator will know which. Copy-paste it into the total result.

You really can get a pretty large percentage of what they're saying off about 20 words and knowledge of conjugations. I can make a list later if you like.

Not surprising. I'm NA and I avoid most NA players, too. Most JP players seem to know what they're doing. Until most NA players do, too, it's linkshell onry.

You know what's weird. If they refused to use Auto Translate, I'll use google Translate (Not an option for some Alt-Tabbers).

try translating english to japanese, then translate that japanese to english lol..

? I still use Auto Trans. They're the ones who won't use it. I use Google Trans for what -they're- saying.

Is Auto-Trans some how more difficult to use for JP?

No, I meant do it in google translate. For example

Would you like to join our experience points party? = あなたは、いくつかの経験点は、弊社に参加したいですか？= You will experience some point, do you want to join us?

I honestly think that the majority of US players use the Auto-Translate function not as a means to ensure proper understanding by all languages, but rather as a means of the quickest way to finish a sentence without having to pay attention to spelling, LOL.
