Personally I love having two names since it makes using a name like max or kirito possible. The name would be almost impossible to have otherwise in all seriousness... Plus nobody likes being denied a name because it was already taken. I know when I created a character on ff11 I had to try about half a dozen names before I could settle with Endos... In ff14 all my character names were accepted except for Kirito Kagamine because the name was too long...

Therefore, when it comes to sending tells in A Realm Reborn, we are planning to have two different methods; typing out the player's name and a method that doesn't involve having to type their name. While things have yet to be finalized, we are looking into possibilities such as a feature where you can just click on the player's name in the chat log to send them a tell.

Once we hear some more concrete information we will be sure to pass it along.
Very nice! I love the method I hope it gets implemented.

Well to be fair, a lot of folks pick long names because they want to be left alone. Back in the day it helped you from getting so many tells/spam.

On the other hand, there are exceptions. For example, my husband (Ryahl MacBannon) used the name Nicophorus Delphinoriean in EQ1. While this was complex (typing out Nicophorus), it was much worse in AC when they required someone to type out the entire name to send a tell to someone. After that, I made him pick a new name (thus Ryahl).

I thought Drakesbane would be easy for people to remember spelling (drake.. +s +bane) but for some reason most people remember Wubrant but mess up my last name. My name is fairly long but pretty simple in concept (imo).

Ha! That was actually Ryahl's reasoning. He said "But Nicophorus Delphinorean is spelled just like it sounds" /thwap ...

Needless to say, all my character names always have between 4 and 5 letters

We are working hard, ps3 memory limitation, it's hard to implement and, we'll try after the release and so on... If JP developers are not used to mmo's (even if yoshi constricted them to play western MMOs) , just engage some western developers...

If some of blizzard team, arenanet, trion etc, reads comment like "we are implementing click on name to chat feature" , they can only laugh hard...
That what i'm saying every time they add something that is the most common thing in a MMO like you said even the worth of the F2P game have it. It's like omg we don't know how we going to do it guys it's really hard but we going to make it work. It's like how good is your dam engine/coding that you still have to say we not sure if it would happen like name change in 2.0 release or something simple as click a name to /tell -.- it's like did you even make a good enough engine/coding or you just don't know how it going to work with the ps3?

If it's the ps3 limitation i say this do what you told us keep supporting ps3 but don't stop releasing stuff on the pc because ps3 can't do it. PS3 users should know what they getting into before buying it for the ps3 at the end of the day sad to say it but it's really made for casual players when it come to ps3. Sure you can do endgame and such but if you want stuff like addon you have to wait and see if SE end up adding the one you like to ps3 in a patch and god knows how long it would take them to convert and make sure it work on ps3.

Let's hope they just doing that to see how hard there working and it's not a engine/coding issue or ps3 limitation because they said ps3 limitation wont stop the PC version like it did with ffxi.

I don't know but all I'm reading is "we're looking to add features "x" and we will keep you informed about this". I don't see anything wrong with this in a development stage. Even if they don't want to hold back the PC because of the PS3 limitation doesn't mean they have to completely ignore the PS3, they just need a bit more reasoning behind what they do and thus, more time.

Having two names allows for MOST people to get the name they like without throwing in random extra letters.

You'd be one of the few. One of the reasons most UI functionalities in most PC software today utilize the mouse is ebcause it is an easy and intuitive to use input device. Virtually all MMOs outside of FFXI were primarily played with keyboard and mouse.

That being said, i'm sure there will be a hotkey for it or something that you can bind to a button. I'm rather curious how you typed in people's names for tells in FFXI without a keyboard.
Gamepad users may be more common in Japan*, so SE probably has that extra challenge when developing any new game systems. But of course keyboards are used when chatting.

    * Not scientific by any means, but one night while talking with the LS about alpha being keyboard-only we realized that all 12-or-so of us online at the time were using gamepads.

Which is the simple reason i prefer mouse and keyboard. I don't have to keep putting down and picking up the controller if I need to enter chat messages.

The Wii U *sort of* solves this problem because you can punch in messages on the game pad screen pretty quickly but I'd still rather just use the keyboard for chat (thank god I can still use my keyboard on the Wii U when playing monster hunter...)

I don't hate controllers, but the keyboard is a lot more convenient when playing MMOs or using anything that potentially has a lot of text input. I do have to give some credit to SE with the upcoming gamepad UI because the method of using your hotbar actions is pretty good (and you can actually hotkey more actions with it which kinda makes up for having to push 2 buttons instead of 1), but im most likely going to stick with mouse and keyboard. I've always been more of a PC gamer so its just more natural for me. My first video games were on the Commodore 64.
