Pretty much lol, my brother told me in a game him and his gf is playing atm they have a little penguin thing that does just that for the most part.
The "hey listen" thing is a reference to Navi in Zelda Orcarina of Time.

I love the idea of name clicking, although I think I'd prefer it if it was a case of double clicking starts a tell rather than single clicking.

Going back to the OP, having just one name, yet allowing for spaces in the name would help with this problem as well. This way, if you WANT a first/last name, you can. But if you really really REALLY want a single name that is an option as well.
The reason (i suspect) FFXIV gave first/last combos it is keeps from severely limiting the name options. For example, The Secret World has unique "nick"names.. in addition to your first/last. The nick-name is the /tell name. However, by offering unique names across a single server infrastructure, it has become increasingly difficult to find a viable name option. If games allowed for 'spaces' it would help remove some of this issue (without forcing a surname on the player-base)

I hope not everything is point and click, I havent used kb mouse in 7 years on an MMO i dont intend to use one now. In other words I hope the ps3 version has a way to maybe hit square to open the log and select a name with the dpad.
BecauseSending tells and inviting people was troublesome typing out some long name with 2 names in it. Why not just switch everyone to 1 name in 2.0?
1) some people like having surnames and being regarded in a professional manner by some NPCs and a casual manner by others, and so role players can do things like create characters that are relatives of eachother (e.g. same last name) and so on.
2) there are plenty of ways to address the /tell issue without removing the surnames.
You'd be one of the few. One of the reasons most UI functionalities in most PC software today utilize the mouse is ebcause it is an easy and intuitive to use input device. Virtually all MMOs outside of FFXI were primarily played with keyboard and mouse.I havent used kb mouse in 7 years on an MMO i dont intend to use one now.
That being said, i'm sure there will be a hotkey for it or something that you can bind to a button. I'm rather curious how you typed in people's names for tells in FFXI without a keyboard.

Gamepad users may be more common in Japan*, so SE probably has that extra challenge when developing any new game systems. But of course keyboards are used when chatting. You'd be one of the few. * Not scientific by any means, but one night while talking with the LS about alpha being keyboard-only we realized that all 12-or-so of us online at the time were using gamepads.

Thanks for answering this ? Okipuit

More people should just pick shorter names. Like me!
