    THE OFFICE. Your workplace.

Offices are Petri dishes with a vengeance.

I used to get sick all the damned time when I was working. Imagine my reaction when i retired and suddenly found I was NOT getting colds and flu every few weeks. Matter of fact I havent had a bad case of flu in YEARS. Offices, enclosed spaces with air con to recirculate the air are an excellent vector.

Think of that the next time one idiot manager tells a staffer to come to work sick.
Can you ever make any argument that isnt a whataboutism or a strawman?

We live in a post-COVID world. Test before going to large gatherings.

Like how we live in a post-9/11 world and have to deal with TSA for any air travel; it's what you do to be responsible / safe / not a selfish [redacted]

Are there actually people who still think tests and staying home work? That's hilarious. The entire western world was on lock down with travel restrictions and it didn't stop the virus because it spreads before carriers even show any symptoms.

I tested negative for a few days with mild and worsening symptoms, including a headache and chills. My first positive test was after I developed a fever.

It's certainly possible to test negative and still be sick and possibly contagious, as you note.

But if you feel sick (and/or have a positive test), staying home still sounds like a pretty good idea. Not just for covid, but also for flu, etc.

As someone else noted, it's also a drag when you are exposed to bad colds/flu/covid/etc. at work or school and end up catching whatever because the powers that be insist that people show up regardless of how sick they might be.

How many of the people who think they caught the infection during fan fest did a test before going? None. Yet the incubation time can be much longer than 2 days and they could've already been infected beforehand.

And the guy left after the keynote 1st day and didn't return because by that point he felt sick enough to know that something was wrong.

I am sorry to hear that. I was left with nerve damage that permanently screwed up my sense of smell.

Cooking meat smells like rotting meat to me.
    Water smells like chemicals.
    etc

    Nothing smells like it should.

Not near the problems you have from COVID but it is life changing and makes day to day a struggle.

The whole "you can have it and not even know" argument seems moot to me when we're talking about a guy who exhibited symptoms the morning of in his hotel room but just brushed them off, took a dayquil, and went to fanfest anyway. It's selfish as hell but that's the classical American response to an infectious disease I guess. "I paid for this trip, and if you all get sick because of me, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make" lol.

His biggest mistake was putting it online. I'm sure there were hundreds of people who weren't feeling 100% but showed up anyway. But this guy was stupid enough to broadcast it live so now he's getting a ton of heat. When people made the connection to Soken being an immunocompromised cancer survivor and "fans" showing up and spreading covid, the righteous fury hit an all time high on twitter last night. It was actually really amazing. Like a fireworks display of anger. It's weird to see people defending going to a totally optional for-fun public event while you're ill. To his credit, at least he got the hell out once he tested positive. I really think his biggest mistake was to make a comic about this shit, like this is the sort of thing where you just go home, pray you didn't give it to anyone while you had no idea you were carrying fucking covid, and then just keep it to yourself. So weird how people have to turn everything into clout shit.

The whole "you can have it and not even know" argument
It isnt an argument. Its a MEDICAL FACT.

when we're talking about a guy who exhibited symptoms
A chill? A slight headache? i get those now and then and I dont have Covid.

They are common symptoms that can mean literally nothing. I get the shivers when I walk into an airconditioned building. Does that mean I have covid?

    NO.

It's selfish as hell but that's the classical American response to an infectious disease I guess.
Its no more than anyone else does who doses themselves up with cold medication when they have to go into work or be fired. This is a common practice..everywhere. I had it happen to me for years when i was working..decades before covid even appeared.

    Im an Australian.

Avoidy: the only way to make sure you dont have it is to test yourself once or twice a day. For LIFE. Or every time you sneeze. Or get a sniffle. Or a cough. The symptoms he experienced were possible for a dozen illnesses besides covid. You can have a sneezing fit over dust particles.

Still think its a good idea?

..is covid still rampant in the US?
It is endemic everywhere and will be for the next 100 years.

    In my state?

The state has recorded 1,949 new COVID-19 cases, down from last week's total of 2,262. There are 829 cases in hospital with the virus, 13 of those in intensive care. There were 34 new deaths recorded.

I know full well Koros made this as another topic of contention because they know it was actively hated on Twitter and elsewhere for the selfishness of the person who made the comic. Get some original bait man like give it a rest and do something more productive.

In regards to the idea the person should have tested tbemself before going, it’s rather selfish to just ignore that and threaten the livelihood of others whose immune systems aren’t as great as your own. I’m going to the October fanfest I’m fully expecting to get Covid or a cold because of the stubborn nature of people these days. I know we pay money to go to these and most can’t get refunds… doesn’t mean you should go with the aim of infecting people either. Just a mask and some hand sanitizer is all I can do when that happens.

Pardon the ignorance but....is covid still rampant in the US? as far as the comic portrays, his only symptom were some random chills in the morning, and that could be literally anything, or nothing at all, so everyone's first reaction being "you should've tested for covid!!!!???" as if it was obvious feels....a little disingenuous. (it's very easy to critizise someone after the fact)

I do agree with Avoidy though, he was unlikely the only person who - knowingly or unknowingly - got infected, he's just the only one who felt the need to announce it publicly, thus becoming the scapegoat. Now everyone who was at fanfest and got covid will blame him, even if they got it from someone/somewhere else, or were already carrying the virus themselves.

so apparently the only option that doesn't "stress the newbies" is either pressing 1211111111, or do nothing at all.
