    PvP Tuning.

    Black mage has long held a below-average win rate in higher tier matches, and because they can be easily countered in custom matches, they often go unused. To help remedy this without making the job too powerful, executing Soul Resonance will once again grant players the effect of Apocatastasis. We believe the added defense of this effect will help players capitalize on the use of their limit break.

    Translation: yoshi p didnt see his main in tourney so hes buffing it so ppl use it.

    my question is, why advertise the rework back in 6.1 to be casual and for everyone
    but tune the balance and make decisions based off of tournament play?

    "custom matches" just say you balancing it off ccrc.

    and people white knight these devs. thats wild. its ok bros maybe in 7.0 theyll fix the uncounterable buttons

    It makes complete sense that they tune around competitive.
    As a developer, would you rather get the feedback from individuals who barely understand what their abilities do (let alone what others do), or would you rather get it from those who actively try to improve? It should be pretty clear.
    Now obviously you don't fully ignore the casuals but you don't look at them at first when making changes. That's not how you create balanced PvP.

    as if pvp is balanced right now. aint no way you a dev and you call this balanced.

    If they actually used CCRC as a direct balancing scale, WHM would no longer have Imp and NIN would get nerfed again.

    That said, trickle-down balance is a thing - generally an adjustment intended for the top level of play is going to matter down the ladder as well. Likewise certain changes wont matter at lower levels as they might not make proper use of them in the first place.

    The BLM change seems to smell of bias or so we can tell ourselves, but let us not be another community that shits all over the place because a single live tournament happened and a change happened later that may start conspiracy theories PLEASE.

    "Below-average win rate" is code for the mere presence of a black mage on the other team causing your crew to suddenly get a lot better at focusing individual targets. Everyone knows to fear The Little Nuke that Could.

    Funny thats usually what Paladins receive if they deign to be my opponent - suddenly they go from 1-2 deaths all the way up to 6.

    Just need enough fear, enough hate boner and 2-4 ppl listening to a call.

    These balance changes were likely planned long before the tournament... Its obvious to wait till after the end of a season or tournament to make balance changes.

    so they planned it. even tho they said in custom matches. who plays customs like that and how would they even get that data? so either they tuning it for the 1% or they tuning it for the 1%
    no one casually does customs. i know ppl do them for events and whatnot but they wouldnt balance off that.

    aint no way people just blindly white knight like that. aint nooooo way.

    Now they just need to do the same for PVM and we might get a real endgame that consists of more than 1 ex trial and 4 savage bosses
