    Is it time?

Dancers weapons are throwing weapons. All I’ve seen are chakrams for 2 expansions now. I can say the same about summoner books. I was very surprised to see finally, a Phoenix inspired summoner relic and not bahamut.

There are so many types of throwing weapons. Throwing knives, shurikens, fans, etc… I mean im sure animations will need to be tweaked but im hoping for a different set of weapons in 7.0.

If not just get rid of throwing weapons name and call them chakrams. Since that’s all we are getting basically.

I know not the point of your post, but I would love for them to move summoner away from books in the next expansion.

Maybe at 91 they would get a 1 handed wand, or some unique weapon.

Books were such an odd choice and probably chosen because they were simultaneously designing scholar and needed a weapon with a dual purpose.

I doubt we will move away from books, but maybe the books will become better designed or at least be different from SCH and SMN instead of palette swaps of each other. I doubt we will get anything like wands or different weapon types to use, especially since BLU uses scepters which have a very similar appearance to wands.

True, but what a waste of a weapon. There’s what, 5 BLU weapons in the entire game lol?

That also being said, we have 3 jobs that currently use variations of 1 handed swords, with the possibility of Corsair or whatever being a 4th job that uses one.

Not only that, BLU uses canes (like walking canes), BLM scepters (their one handed weapons from level 1-50 content), and WHM uses wands (their one handed weapons from level 1-50 content, like Y'Shtola's twig thing she uses in ARR when she's a CNJ-adjacent Job)

    .

Personally, I love the book. I like how SMN summons like they're signing a contract or something. It's not entirely how it works in the lore, but I've liked it since I started playing in ARR. I feel like a wand/scepter would be a downgrade, honestly.

And the 1h wand wielding animation is very distinct from the BLU's canes.

I wish they were usable as glamours over 2h weapons... so many nice models that never see the light of day, including the FF13 collab wands. I actually bought the WHM one in the Mogstation back in the day. I know they have a disclaimer saying that it can't be glamoured into 2h conjurer arms, but back in the day the sprout me, browsing the Mogstation for good cosmetic items to look marginally good in my journey, had no idea that we would not have any 1h WHM weapons past level 50 anymore. :/

    Back on topic!

I agree with the OP, and while DNC is overdue some more eccentric choices (like how it doesn't have an actual fan yet?!), it still got it much better than the book wielders.

Sadly books are the most boring weapon. Every new patch it's the only weapon I don't look forward to see what we get, because it's always something way too cumbersome to be a book, many spikes, things popping out. I can count on my left hand the number of books that are actually really distinctively interesting.

I wish that instead of getting those "arsenal of spikes and hazards" overworked models we could get simpler tomes and the effort could be put into the actual special effects when you have it open. More floating sigils, runes, etc.

Or even better, imagine if there was a special type of carbuncle that had its appearance unique to each book's design (or at least some of them).

Kind of agree. A lot of the books have neat visual effects, but the book itself is either too hokin' big (look up the Eureka final form book on a Lalafell sometime) or they have too much filigree (all the fine little gold bits that look like they'd snap like twigs if you ever brushed it against something), and somehow, even the books with the pages being small-ish have massive covers hanging out over them, that just look comically stupid.

That said, I like both the current Hilde Relic steps (the ones that just came out. The SMN and SCH ones look distinct from each other, don't have terribly massive amounts of filigree, and I like the orange/green visual effect. The only downside is doing the /bm (battle mode) /sit macro trick (to make your weapon activate the glow effect while sheathed) looks weird - as it did with the Bozja one - since the glow frames the book, so you have floating ghost pages and cover. This is a big problem with the books since most of the glows trace the outline of the book, and I think SCH/SMN have more issue with this for the glowing sit trick than any other Job. Given, not everyone knows that trick, but if you like to use it, it's noticeable.

Honestly, some of my favorite books are also the oldest. I still like the Ifrit Extreme SMN book. Definitely fitting for a SMN, and while the flaming horns DO have the shape of the book being opened, it's not too bad because of how ephemeral they are. Other good options are the first glowing stage of the SCH ARR Relic, since it has kind of a gentle cloudy glow that looks good sheathed or unsheathed. When it's replaced with the black version of the book, it still works but the glow is a bit more overpowering. And the SMN's final stage, the Apocalypse, is actually really cool. The horns (Bahamut?) are extensions from the spine, and so don't look funny with the book closed, and the purple circle is pretty small and centered on the gem, so it still looks good even when sheathed on your belt. Note that the Last Resort, SCH's counterpart...does not, since the glowing circle is massive. This is a recurring SCH problem, since they did the same thing with the HW Relic and that massive green circle with the spinning windmill wings.

    .

Still, overall, I really like books as a weapon, as I tend to think D&D Wizards with spellbooks and I like the way casts like Ruin come out of the book and Biolysis seems to be a quick spell conjured from its pages as well. Though it did occur to me, between the summoning cast animation and the /vpose...SCH and SMNs are left handed. Look which hand you're holding the book with and which you're writing with...
