So close yet so far: FF gaming in FFXIV saga continues

The first time I recall suggestions about the ability to play either an actual retro FF game or something like tactics was back during the #ps3limitations era. Memory is hazy on this but this surged up because FFXIV team had created an old school version of the Ifrit battle (again, can't recall if it was made as a joke or for real). After some time, at least from my POV, the request got quiet and I thought that as a collective, we just resigned ourselves that it was just one of those things that can't be done.

Until I received this in my news feed: https://www.pcgamer.com/want-some-fi...layer-housing/

The gist of the article is two things, one that I hope for and the other being "not in this way". The first one being that YoshiP actually discussed the idea with the team. It's something they'd like to do but it would require "middleware" and "system within a system". He would accept resumes from "super genius programmers" to make this happen. This, in my opinion sounds like a big step forward. Shows that this isn't just some "neat idea, put it on the backburner" approach. It doesn't mean this is a surefire thing but ff14's technological evolution shows that, albeit sometimes slow, there are things that do happen that we didn't think they could.

Now the second part is where I feel we're so close yet so far and it may just simply be because of what kind of games we want but moreso the implications that they carry. In the article, YoshiP says that those requested games (like FFI-IV) have to work as a buisiness as the company can't give them away for free. Thing is for me is that not only this is fine but it's not old titles I want to play in the gold saucer or housing. My thoughts had always been about playing something that the devs made with their own hands. I remember way back then, one of my wishes was that if there was a tactics style game, featuring characters within FFXIV or retro battle versions of fights that are in the game already.

Lastly, the article states that YoshiP half-jokingly said he'd like have more people onboard to create a path forward to such a goal.

Never underestimate this playerbase willingness to make FFXIV-related things come to fruition

I don't even have to bet my lifesavings on this: I'm 188% certain there are some madlads who heard this and said "bet". But I do think it needs to start small, like a prototype of sorts, something that isn't dependant on the business side of things to get greenlit and I think to make this happen, it would need a concerted effort to express the type of game we want in our housing/gold saucer that doesn't require a price tag.

Can that be done? I do not know but I guess I'm here to find out were we stand on this, at least here on the forums.

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

I think it's a cool idea, but it's fairly pointless if it's just going to emulate the FF's.

What would be cool is if they incorporated that feature to other parts of the game, like a Gold Saucer GATE that features a turn-based battle in the pixel remaster style.
