What if the new caster job is Onmyoji

Onmyoji has been constantly teased since Stormblood in Kugane, with gradual additions to the teasing.

- Appearances in Bozja fates
- Lore drops in Mount Rokkon
- Lore tied to Doma as well, with a certain group of Onmyoji escaping Doma during the occupation due to persecution by the empire.
- and probably more mentions I may have overlooked and missed

So what does it have that other casters don't?

Well, Onmyoji according to Yoshi P would likely be this games version of Oracle. If you don't know what Oracle is, Oracle comes from FFV, and was known for its predict command, which is a command ability learned from the Oracle job class, exclusive to the Advance and subsequent versions of Final Fantasy V. It selects one of ten abilities, based on the last digit of the caster's current MP before casting the move and deducting MP. The power of that ability depends on the last digit of the target's current HP: the higher the number, the more powerful the ability. It wasn't used much by fans of the series, because it was unreliable. They were used more for their high magic stats.

I feel like the future telling of this job would be a good counter to balance Astrologian in the lore, and show that there are other jobs that can predict the future. It would likely be themed in some of its spells, equipment, and whatever quests are involved to give it flavor.

Another cool fact about Oracle, is each characters "aura" color of the magic would be different depending on who used it. I think this would be a great unique job feature, and would make it more customizable. Imagine if you could pick Gold, Pink, Purple, Red, Blue,
etc. It would be similar to bard in that you have a unique non essential mechanic for the job. Color selection in my opinion on a job would be a dream come true. Though it would have to be simple to program. I think if they made all the skills easily color changeable for such a job, it would be simple, and effective at honoring the originals lore.

Now, here is where Onymoji differs from Oracle. They are known in the game to use spell tags, protection seals, and divination techniques that were known in the real worlds Asia.This in my opinion could enhance the class, and make it much more interesting.

In my opinion some form of Oracle, or Onmyoji would be incredible in the game, and would set it apart from other magic classes heavily. Even if Onmyoji doesn't fit with the New World, I still think it would be a good way of honoring the east. Especially because we can always return to it in a later expansion, and expand on the job. I love it when you get a new job, and then get to go home to its location later. It's so cool when that happens in this game, and is one reason why I was disappointed that Sage didn't have as prominent of a lore appearance in Endwalker compared to other jobs with home locations in the game. Oracle and Onmyoji would be wonderful for world building, and shouldn't make this mistake as Sage often did.

Be prepared for an influx of people telling you Oracle is Astrologian and it will never happen. Geomancer gets that treatment all the time. Just because it also reads the future it’s basically an eastern themed Astrologian.

We're going to a mesoamerican-themed "new world" continent.
Thematically, Onmyoji wouldn't fit here, considering real world parallelisms, something like Druid/Shaman would make more sense.
Then again, this is pure speculation, and since it's a fantasy setting they can justify any job being from anywhere.

Are there jobs that could currently fit that bill? A Shamanistic job could be cool but that's essentially BLUs background and Druidism was conjurer before it became WHM though I'm not sure how much of that remains.
Not that it would really hinder the devs either way since the they could now just make OC Jobs.

Do you have any sources for onmyouji=oracle comment? Because everything in game that we have involving the onmyouji involved them being, effectively, arcanists who use spell slips or incantation to summon various shikigami.

I feel like with Final Fantasy XIV, the devs don't care about this so much. They usually have LONG gaps between the job types i.e. ranged magical dps, so with that development in mind, it doesn't matter.

Remember we got the non Ishgardian Astrologian years before going to Old Sharlayan proper, and Monk way before going to Ala Mhigo. This can happen again.
