If the solution is to be an anti-social turd/scorched earth then I'd rather just deal with mtx. Biggest issue isn't even MTX in and of itself, its that it exists entirely within a "line must go up" wealth-hoarding system. Best you can do is just not participate and encourage others to do the same unless you know where that money actually ends up in a place you WANT it to go (back to developers/creators who put in the work, and allow it to funnel back into the game or product development).
Gacha is an entire mess like lootboxes though, garbage like that SHOULD be publicly decried and rejected wholly as to the product connected to it. I can at least see cash shop stuff being acceptable since it can be adhered to on agreeable guidelines (this is not a defense of XIV's one because I think it's wholly overpriced and bloated), but I can see it being okay to have a few single-mission DLCs or 1 dollar costumes that keeps artists on the payroll, but gambling with uncapped spending? yeah no.
I've recently turned off ublock, and I'm inclined to agree. It's already worth it lmao
This part in bold is important. Saying "it's their money and it's none of your business" whenever the topic of microtransactions comes up (as some on the forums do) hurts the community as a whole. When microtransactions become scummy and overpriced, not buying into them should be encouraged.

Thank you. Exactly what I've been doing. At least you gave an answer.Best you can do is just not participate and encourage others to do the same unless you know where that money actually ends up in a place you WANT it to go (back to developers/creators who put in the work, and allow it to funnel back into the game or product development). .
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
Jeez that bike price is unforgiveable in how high it is, and there are enough other examples to already be angry over.I've recently turned off ublock, and I'm inclined to agree. It's already worth it lmao

The "my money I spend it how I want!" is just a lost cause I've found, friendships have been hurt because of trying to fight this losing war that I can't bring myself to keep the chastisement going. I would like that a large, co-ordinated boycott on MTX in general, but that time was decades ago and it just won't gain enough traction. The things like the WoW BC "classic" one was funny, but Blizzard have been putting out more MTX for wow classic so I wouldn't be surprised if they made bank on it already, and still make enough money. I would love for the system to just be pay for game > pay for expansions, if the game is good it'll make bank, but it doesn't make "all of the money" and that is the bare minimum it seems for AAA gaming (at least I can still get a good 10 dollar indie game that'll roll me for a while. If I ever get keen to pay for something off the mogstation I just hit steam instead.
Funny thing is, if people actually comitted and didn't buy it, it would have worked. It's literally how a market works. You can't sell what nobody buys.
Also reading through this, I thought I accidentally clicked another thread because who was talking about microtransactions? That took a turn.
I don't particularly like encouraging off-topic discussion, but considering the thread's original topic and "inspiration," I think, for once, it was the right thing to do.
Honestly, I like the trolls on the forum here. Certain people do a great job of generating discussion and even if the intent is to troll, they're creating actual dialogue based on topics.
Threads like this are a reminder that some people just don't understand what it means to "Stop feeding the trolls." This is exactly the kind of thread that would make the JP side point and laugh at us.
Love this post. I hope more people will listen to this, though I fear without a little bit more moderation, nothing will get better.
