The Scions at this point are our character's closest friends, who they call on in times of need. They're not going to vanish just because they've been around for a while.

Even if not working together directly, they have similar enough interests that they end up crossing paths anyway.

Any functional adult knows just because they have close friends they're not going to be glued to you everywhere you go. That's how you meet new people, and meeting new people help you develop more personally and professionally.

I'm not one of the strange people with a weird hatred for the scions, I am however incredibly exhausted of them at this point in the story and I just want them to be given their own agency so they can take a backseat for once. I was willing to tolerate them for base EW considering the context of the story, but I don't think I can handle another 20 hour-ish MSQ of all of them following me around again.

That explains so much. You do understand how Twitter is engineered to feed you a constant stream of only the things you engage with most, right? Confirmation bias is literally built into it as a feature. Considering your usual attitudes, Twitter's algorithm would naturally feed you a constant stream of negativity to reinforce your pre-exsiting biases, leading you to the conclusion that everyone agrees with you.

Reality check: Twitter is not and will never be an accurate sampling of the population.

Honestly we will never get a good enough sampling until SE creates a ingame poll that a huge amount of players take.
There are places on the internet where the scions are seen more negative. Than we have youtube with trailer reactions and lots of people enjoying their return, the same with the reaction on ff14 reddit and man did the crowd cheer at the fanfest (the loudest for Graha Tia).

I myself was a bit surprised to see all of the scions in this teaser trailer and after seeing it for the first time I was not sure if that was great or not. Yet now I think that its good. They are beloved characters for at least a good amount of people and our character already knows them. Having them split into different teams also means that there is room for new characters to join our adventure. I think that this is imo a good compromise to go forward, especially since people might not even like the new characters (I am looking at this forum and some reactions towards Zero).

I wouldn't mind some of the newer Scions that joined in Endwalker or towards the end of Shadowbringers, but the old cast had their time in the light, and the arcs were complete. They haven't killed a character since 2017, and every death is a fake death to the point it's now meaningless, which made the ending to Endwalker really fall flat because you know they would be back in 10 minutes.

When I heard the Scions were disbanding and we were going on a new adventure where we went our separate ways, I thought it was a chance to meet new characters and have new experiences, but it's just more of the same, and I'm cynical enough at this point to note it's probably for merchandising reasons.

Well, there's that and developer bias. Alphinaud is Yoshi-P's favourite character, after all. Yet despite consistently polling very highly on character popularity polls there's very little merchandise relating to the Ancients outside of Venat. It's a stark contrast to the likes of FFVIIR where the game actually embraces fan-service both inside the game and outside of it to a large degree. Even Roche ended up getting a statue on the Square Enix store and he's one of the new, fairly minor characters in the story.

It's why I think the development team is in seriously need of some fresh blood with broader personal tastes.

I wouldn't even mind the Scions if they weren't just a gaggle of yes-men following us around. Give them some clashing ideals and we might get an interesting character dynamic for once instead of a droning hivemind.

I was hoping for a complete new adventure with a brand new cast. Development maybe? Keeping the scions instead of creating new cast members would allow them to keep the current trusts and abilities and models without creating brand new assets. Maybe 8.0 a new cast
