? 1000 W PSU for a setup with a non-overclocked by the sound of it CPU with a TDP of 125W, 4 GB of memory in 2x2 modules and a graphics card running at about 19W!
A quality PSU of 300-400W would be the normal recommendation.

Now this I can get aboard on, the better airflow you have in a case, the less strain you put on the CPU and GPU (and any other) heatsinks.

Maybe I'm underestimating the power draw of that GPU under load. For me, I had troubles when I was using two GTX270s in SLI under load causing my UPS, which has a max load of 750W, to trip when running XIV.

Yup yup. The effects of heat on your PC components are similar to the effects of an incline on your car. Even though you're driving the same way, with the engine doing the same RPMs, your performance is decreased because the engine still has to try harder to get the car up that hill.
