    Computer Overheat? Computer Power Down

    Hello,
I has a few questions as i am encountering problems with running FFXIV,
So I am looking for some input, a little help, a bit of insight to narrow down the problem that has plagued me for a while now,
To the point:, I can run FFXIV fine for long periods of time, But on some occasions my computer will just power off without reason, and when this happens it will repeatedly happen for some time with in 20 minutes of it first doing so. It sucks..

    My Rig:
    OS: Windows 7, 64
mobo: Asrock N68C-S UCC GeForce 7025 Socket AM2+ VGA
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE 3.2
    Ram: 2x2GB DDR3 1333mhz/PC3-10600 Memory
    GPU: Asus HD 5450 Series 1GB GDDR3 PCI-E

I believe my system is overheating but i am not very sure of the temps my GPU or CPU should be about at idle or full load, I've monitored them at:

    CPU Idle: 50c~ Upwards
    GPU Idle: 58c~ Upwards

While running FFXIV i see them rise to

    CPU @ 66c and GPU @ 79c

Is my GPU overheating and would that cause my system to shut off? Is the CPU temp fine or is this too high?

I definitely think it's overheating. Try keeping your case open and see if it happens again!

Last month, the fan on my graphics card broke and it was causing some major overheating issues, and it did this exact thing when I tried to run games. >< Try checking if everything is ok inside! Maybe you might have the same issue as me!

I often worry about my GPU temps. I have a Nvidia GTX 470 and while playing FFXIV it constantly runs around 80-90c, sometimes peaking above 90c.

But I haven't had any shutdowns or anything.

I've played for a few hours on many occasions with GPU temps around 90c. So far It doesn't seem to have any problems.
(This is on two screens btw, one for game an other for internet. Changing from one screen to two increases the GPU temp quite a bit).

It's definitely your CPU overheating. AMD CPU's aren't supposed to be running any hotter than 62c. My brother was having the exact same thing happen to him, so just as a temporary measure he opened up the case and put a small house fan next to it and hasn't had it happen since. I'm pretty sure your GPU temp is right on par. They tend to run a lot hotter. I've seen mine over 90 numerous times and not a problem.

Another thing i meant to question, I have Speed Fan installed to monitor Temps and Fan Speed, my CPU Fan is always around 3200~ RPM @ 66c is this normal? or should it be going beserk?

Also, Is any product of compressed Air Safe to use inside of the computer to clean dust?

I got my can of air at Radioshack and it was perfect! I'd just buy it from some sort of technology store if you're not sure on the brand but I think most anything should be fine.

You are likely experiencing these shutdowns due to the CPU overheating.

The idle temp you list, is what you should be seeing under normal load, according to AMD the max temperature for the 955 CPU is 55°C - 62°C.

Make sure that all fans (case and GPU) are running correctly.
If the graphics card is passively cooled, it very well might be, you could attach a fan yourself to improve on the cooling performance.

Another thing to consider is the possibility that your PSU does not put out enough wattage to handle your GPU and CPU under heavy load, and that's what's causing your PC to power down.

For what you have in your case, I'd recommend at least a 750 watt PSU, preferably 1000.

And never underestimate the effect dust buildup and poor cable management has on your components! Always keep your case free of dust, and be mindful of airflow when positioning cables. The more open space there is in your case the better.

? 1000 W PSU for a setup with a non-overclocked by the sound of it CPU with a TDP of 125W, 4 GB of memory in 2x2 modules and a graphics card running at about 19W!
A quality PSU of 300-400W would be the normal recommendation.

Now this I can get aboard on, the better airflow you have in a case, the less strain you put on the CPU and GPU (and any other) heatsinks.

I was having the same thing happen and it turned out I had a quarter inch of dust over my vents... vacuumed it out and it stopped happening.

I'm done putting my box on the floor too, it seems to get dusty way faster than on top of my desk.
