The thing I love about Sage is, that when played well and/or with a halfway decent group, it just feels very smooth and efficent to play. I won't deny it is heavy on the dps mentality, but at the same time with how people like to cry and moan back and forth on opposite ends I can't say I blame SE for how things are.
You have people that take "Healers aren't supposed to be dps they're supposed to heal" to the extreme and then you have the opposite "if you're not healing you need to dps" extreme that likes to deface any little slip ups and inefficencies to the same extreme. Balancing a scale this volatile could test the paitence of the Moai's to say the least.
I think there have actually been studies on it, to be fair. Each role attracts a certain group of people.
I assume it makes sense. Every friend I have made in real life, and who has eventually played MMOs with me, gravitates toward the healer role. So, I assume our personalities match to some degree.
My ex-girlfriend was a DPS, and she wasn't willing to accept responsibility for anything that happened in her life. It was always somebody else's fault.
Never met a tank IRL, though.
You probably have but just not realized it. They're ether the annoying chads that go HAM on everything or the soft-spoken ones that just do their stuff and everyone else is none the wiser.I think there have actually been studies on it, to be fair. Each role attracts a certain group of people.

Except even the developers coded into their own game a quest that basically amount to the fact that “healers are supposed to heal” isn’t a valid playstyleThe thing I love about Sage is, that when played well and/or with a halfway decent group, it just feels very smooth and efficent to play. We should not be catering to people even the developers say is wrong and despite this SGE is basically “I can force eos to target only the tank” because apparently spamming diagnosis should be considered a valid playstyle contrary to you know the entire sylphie questline
So yeah I was arguing SGE is a terrible healer for what healer mains want, kardia is an underdeveloped mechanic built to imitate modern eos who is a shell of her former self
Try being a caster. We had 2 options in 2.0. Summoner gets reworked every expansion. Red mage was added in 4.0. We’ve gone 3 expansions with nothing. New summoner is popular, but they gutted the old job for many people. I like the move away from poison mage, but there’s zero depth.
Casters are also divided by raise. BLM is basically it’s own sub class as it doesn’t follow the red mage and summoner Rez, and utility tax.
We desperately needed a new caster.
I’m a little annoyed that we’re getting a new melee jo though… we just got one. Making a job just because of scouting gear is dumb.
Sadly we both know people don't just do what they're told. At the end of the day you can lead a horse to water but can't make them drink it.Except even the developers coded into their own game a quest that basically amount to the fact that “healers are supposed to heal” isn’t a valid playstyle

So what exactly do healer mains want? What games are out there that can feasably force their healing and/or support role to be pure healing and no damage contributuion? If it's a more interactive kit I'm right there with you. I miss having more than 1 damage button.
I also never argued that Sage wasn't horribly designed. That debate is one I'm not starting since we both know that rabbit hole leads no where pleasant. I just spoke on what I enjoy about it and nothing more.
This is mad cope and hope
from me but im hoping the lack of tank/healer jobs will help in ways to actually rework and improve the jobs. The current design of both needs improvements, Sage is proof of how lazy healer design has gotten, the tanks have also been going down hill in EW.
Yeah im disappointed we get yet another boring melee job instead of a tank, but i guess im still happy about a new caster as caster is sort of my "secondary" job type other then tank.
I enjoy playing healer because I like watching HP bars go up. That and it's great for Savage. My little brain is too smooth to juggle both mechanics and a complex DPS rotation.
Considering how boring the current Tanks and Healers are, adding more of them instead of fixing the base problems would only result in additional flashy yet boring Jobs.
