But, if Square are willing, Microsoft could add FF14 to Game Pass (just the expansions, not the subscription. The sub will still be paid for), and Square have a habit of releasing their games to GP (Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, etc.)
If on Game Pass, the game will be on xCloud, allowing you to play FF14 on:
- Mobile devices
- Web browser
- Xbox One
- Any computer, no matter how old it is (as long as it has a USB slot for your controller!)
Before anybody says "But Cloud Gaming is terrible", it does depend on where you are, and xCloud has seen MANY improvements over the years. I live in Sweden, and I use xCloud for any game over 100GB on PC, mostly because I don't want to forever be deleting games off my SSD. Other than dynamic resolution on the video stream, it works incredibly well.
So yeah. If FF14 comes to Game Pass (eventually), then expect to play FF14 wherever you are.
Note:
I expect FF14 to 'launch' on Game Pass (just the expansions, not the subscription). This has happened to all Square-Enix games that Microsoft paid to come onto the Xbox. The deal is Microsoft funds the porting process and provides resources, and the game lands on Game Pass.
