Aside from being sundered, Zodiark was being controlled by Fandaniel, whose entire goal was to get Zodiark destroyed to restart the Final Days, so he wasn't exactly going all out.

Eh, true enough. I do subscribe to the school of thought that WoL basically isnt quite as strong as people tout ingame, but is just too central to many events to not be seen as such, but I do think that Zodiark/Hydaelyn are outliers in that regard.
