Garlond GL-IS pricing: how is no one talking about this?

I guess another question would be how the price compares to similar mounts in the cash shops of NA/EU produced games. WoW and Guild Wars 2 seem to have a standard price of US$25 for their cash shop mounts (GW2 price after calculating gem cost) but I could only find single rider mounts, no passenger mounts. ESO has 3 passenger mounts on their cash shop for 5000 Crowns each (closest Crown bundle would be 5500 Crowns for US$39.99 so 5000 would be US$36.35 if you bought that bundle - hi predatory pricing). New World does not have mounts yet (looks like they're being added in October).

So the price here doesn't seem to be out of line with other MMORPGs. I know that doesn't mean that players like the price or think it's appropriate but it's obviously a price that the game industry feels enough players are willing to pay. I doubt you're going to get the price changed outside of the normal annual discount sales. Too many will happily pay the listed price because it's not a large enough amount of money to concern them compared to their overall income. All they're concerned about is getting what they want and nothing said will change their minds.

A few things to add here for context.

-WoW does have 2 seater mounts, last time I checked they're just all gained through gameplay.
-GW2 is a buy to play mmo that does not require a monthly sub so their main income, outside of the initial "box price", is their store.
-ESO is either free to play or has the option of paying a monthly sub, the sub however also comes with 1650 crowns every month (on top of access to every expansion except for the most recent and a bunch of convenience features) so while the price for a 3 seater is technically the highest out of all the games you can pay for it simply by staying subbed to the game for 4 months.

It's really only WoW and XIV that are double-dipping, requiring you to pay a sub to even be able to play while also selling expensive mounts in their store.

Of 12 mounts released last patch, 2 were in shop, and I'm betting my ass that if any of mounts that ARE in game for free, like the Rokkon mounts or the Ambystoma from savage were in shop, people would be rioting just as much because theyd believe THOSE mounts were deserved to be for free instead, just like they're doing now with Shadowkeeper. Frankly, while I don't LIKE the existence of shop and exclusivity of items (in big part because some of best glamours are there), I do think that with this latest batch, anyone who says "oh, theyre putting ALL the cool stuff in shop and game gets nothing" is either strongly biased towards specific type of thing they want happening to be what hits the shop this time, or simply disenginous, because game is still getting lots of free content.

3 of those in game mounts are literally recolors of tomatoes, turnips, corn, whatever vegetables they are

Another is recolored trial mount as usual, and then you have a LANTERN and a ugly ass overworld mob recolor and then a COW LMAO. 4 recolors, 2 are literally just upscaled mobs, and then a LANTERN, and a Loporrit mount clone which is pretty much another overworld mob but this time they changed the limbs around a bit. It's literal trash.

Like the in-game mounts are actually just trash, only decent one is the criterion one

At the same time unlike most people I also think shop mounts are trash, only good one was Shadowkeeper but that's literally eclipsed by the way cooler and bigger Cerberus.

The mounts this xpac in general is just trash tbh in game or on the mog store but you can't say with a straight face that Shadowkeeper wasn't the best mount this patch other than the criterion tiger thing

The last cool mount we got was seriously like nearly 3 years ago in Delubrum Savage. I think my Dreadnaught is cooler but that's only because I get /tell asking me what mount that is and I can flex my feast t100

This is definitely important to keep in mind as well. Yes, there are only 2 mogstation mounts added in the last however how long, but the ones being added into the game itself are mostly cheap recolors, mob upscales, or mounts no one would be willing to drop money on. (the lantern lmao) All the good stuff gets sent over to the shop. The only in-game mount from recent times I could see people actually spending money on is the Axolotl which should have been from the new Ocean Fishing route. (I already own it so I'm not complaining about it being too hard to get, it just doesn't fit the savage tier)

Do you really consider these "all the good stuff"? If they're the "good stuff", why don't we see players using them more often after they've been available a few weeks? The wolf and cycle are new enough that it's normal for them to still be getting used. Of the rest, they're almost never seen. The Megashiba might turn up at hunts a couple of times a month and that's about it. I see Argos more than the rest combined.

From the mounts that were released before EW, Cruise Chaser shows up fairly often. The Lunar Whale gets pulled out when someone is shuttling passengers around. That's about it. I might see a Fat Cat or Carby appear then disappear again but almost all the rest are absent unless they were from seasonal events and it's the time of year for that event.

Players eventually go back to the mounts they earned through game play because those have some sort of meaning attached to them. The "good stuff" they bought from the cash shop doesn't. Those mounts seem to end up little more than +1 to collection, only to be brought out when people are showing off what mounts they have to others but not when a mount is needed.

I've got one character that uses the mounts that I've been gifted over the years to honor the friends who gifted them to me.

I've got a lalafell character I created as a joke that uses the Ceruleum Balloons.

But unless a character is shuttling others around and needs a passenger mount:

I use the Amaro mount on this character (unless I'm in Azim Steppe, then I switch to the Pteranodon because Aswang).

On my remaining characters I use Hybodus, Ironfrog Mover, Flying Chair and Ehil Tou. All are acquired in game.

I really can't see the mounts on the cash shop as the "good stuff" when they're treated as momentary curiosities then forgotten by those who buy them.

I don't mind collecting mounts in-game, but it is kind of an ask to buy too many of them from the store, especially considering we barely ever get to use them to begin with! Multiple person mounts are also largely a novelty, since the last real use of them I can think of was during Eureka.

I'm not reading this as your essays are usually mostly word bloat and I guarantee that you could make your argument with a quarter or less of the words you used.

I'll just reiterate my point. Looking at FFXIV Collect, we got 12 mounts between 6.4 and 6.45. Sounds like a lot right? However, there's a really big asterisk there.

- Four of them are recolors/reskins of existing mounts that are VERY similar (three mandragonas and an extreme mount)
- Two of them are upscales of existing mobs (the buffalo and the supporter, not counting Shadowkeeper)
- Two of them are mogstation mounts (the bike and shadowkeeper)

This means that we got a grand total of four mounts that do not fit into these catagories. Thus, it is important that when comparing the amount of new mogstation content to the amount of new in-game content, that we do not pretend like a recolor/reskin is of the same quality as a mount like the new bike.

you are missing a very important detail here, THE MUSIC.

I use my fat cat when gathering stuff here and there because I like the music.
The fat cat is my most used mount, because we don't use mounts that often after levelling other than gathering/hunts/msq.

Shadow wolf with Hullbreaker Isle BGM ( Horizons Calling) is a disappointment, because we were waiting for a ShB music.

When the "good looking/brand new" effect vanishes, we put every mount (no matter how has been obtained) in the RNG, EXCEPT the mounts with a music we like.

I like the Cid theme 'Dreams Aloft', and this alone make the new mount "interesting".
