I do kind of have to agree. Or at least I am, and have been, very apathetic about the game and it's future for awhile. I do believe people should keep putting out suggestions, or trying to see change for the better, but I don't actually expect SE to listen or act on any of it. The game is kind of just in it's cycle.

I doubt I will 'quit' the game with 7.0, but I have been keeping my sub less, and even gave up my small - not like it mattered, since I can get another, bigger, one. I should say, I have always played the game very sporadically, and honestly, I actively play it about the same as I always have, but I am just not as enthusiastic about it as I was. SE definitely has the capacity to surprise me, but I really don't see that happening too much. It's nice for the people who are still hoping for the best.

This is more or less how I feel about it. I don't really harbor any sort of intense feelings for the game, nor have I for the past Idk... 5 years? I picture my general disposition towards the game on a timeline that consists of a vague apathy at baseline that is broken by the great highs of an expansion launch. I still continue to play the game because I still enjoy it to some degree, and this pattern hasn't changed at all. The content that is delivered is something I consider to be "just enough" to enjoy, but the needle does not move beyond that. With each major content release I can expect a decent-to-good storyline with some easy-yet-enjoyable content alongside it. I honestly find the level of consistency to be commendable, but I'd be lying if I said I was 100% ok with it. This feeling of "yeah it's ok, I guess" becomes more palpable over time, and while I would like something more (whatever "more" entails is much too nebulous for me to go into at this point), I just don't see it happening. I think the devs are simply all-too-entrenched in their own design pattern at this point.

Ultimately, this won't stop me from playing the game. I've come to see it as that game, the "background game", a game I can always turn to if I'm just not feeling like playing anything else. I've been playing since beta 2.0 and at this time I am far too invested into the world, characters, story, etc... to simply just drop it. Sunk cost doesn't cross my mind. I'm talking momentum. I've been playing, and will continue to do so, but as I said at the start, with a certain hint of apathy. No gnashing of teeth, or stomping my feet, just kind of a shrug.

Wow, what an incredibly articulation of how I feel. I was trying to express this but definitely not as well. Completely agreed.

If you don't like the game at all, unironically save yourself the money and quit now because at this point this game is irredeemable. There's literally no point in waiting for 7.0 to fix anything. Spoiler: they won't. Only reason to stick to this game is for secondary, non-game purposes.

Let me just spoil the ending for all of you: FF14 is going to start failing, slowly, Square Enix is going to put this on maintenance mode in like 8.0 or 9.0 or something, maybe they'll try to revitalize it but fail.

CBU3 has like literally no idea how to make interesting progression systems, there is not a single exploratory content or horizontal content that succeeded with the entire playerbase. They just don't know how. They also fired some devs and leads who disagreed with the vision of the game (rumor), clearly they're not open to feedback either. So don't huff the copium really, no need to wait for 7.0. It's already over.
Why does it matter if other people want the game to keep going? You obviously are praying it fails so you can run around and tell people "I TOLD YOU SO!!!".

Seriously though, just quit playing and go do something else ...
or you know, make another alt to b*tch whine and moan on a forum.

Really the opposite. A lot of the people criticizing the game do actually want to see the game succeed.

I have seen some talk of positive things, such as PvE or endgame raiding in general. I doubt the OP would be here if there were aspects of the game they didn't like. I wouldn't just think they want to see the game fail.

Yeah.. that is probably one of the bigger issues. SE can AFFORD to be complacent if they want to. There really are no competitors in this space at all. Sure, people might go back to WoW, but how much is that really going to take from FFXIV? I can personally say, I don't really like any of the other games in the genre myself. I was never a WoW player. I would really like to see what is next for the space.

I mean, there is FFXI, and a decent amount of new and old ffxiv players are playing that now, but it's not really a competitor for ffxiv.

Its weird, there is no Lack of Variety, but the Competitors just arnt really catching up to WoW & FFXIV.
What are the closest?...like, GW2 & ESO? Perhaps SWTOR?
Then there is PSO2, Black Desert and New World. Maybe its just my Circles, but I never hear about these games. Or a few times Ive seen Vids about GW2 and ESO or New World, videos about content and News just Dries Up. I never even get random Memes or Lore Videos about them.

I cant imagine the games are that far behind FFXIV and WoW.
Some of these games have even been out a pretty long while
