As a result it appears he's mostly clueless as to why people are upset with the game in the first place and just writing it off as those people just being haters of the game having a "Dark Story" and action game based combat.
If so, that seems like a weak excuse to me to just ignore feedback. He can get staff to sift through it and bring forward the productive feedback. This is the norm in most of industry in dealing with customer feedback, especially for large companies like SE, which he should be aware of. He's claimed in the past he isn't sensitive unlike some of his staff. So he could just 'forge ahead' like the game preaches. This really does read as a ploy to get people to pity/white knight him and I, for one, do not care for it. This is the sort of thing that makes me lose respect for a company and a person. This isn't some small mom and pop shop.

    It really does seem true.

    Also saw this floating around...

If that's accurate, it's hardly harsh. Even if, as the comment suggests, that they may have omitted other stuff that's harsher out there (and let's for argument's sake assume it's all genuine), that specific feedback does not fit the bill and it should be clear what those players are saying. Can't just brush that off as 'haters' in good faith. Such an approach would contradict his own stated approach to game design and customer feedback...

I'm curious what feedback people do think they listen to. I do not think they pay any attention at all to the forums or Reddit given the lack of interaction. In Twitch streams, community reps go out of their way not to speak on potentially controversial topics for fear of any negative or conflicting information reaching the ears of the higher ups, causing more problems. Twitter is used as advertising fluff and they never respond to any issues players have.

We have been told years in the past that they scour social media and the forums for topics of interest to relay to the development team, but it's literally been years since we have been told that. There have also been many instances like the above Mr. Happy situation where somehow important feedback had been completely glossed over until an influencer spoke directly to the director about grievances.

I baselessly think they look at some data in-game to see what's popular, but lately I feel like this is the only feedback they listen to. Without any sort of discourse from their side, it's a very disappointing venture.

Its a heavy load of copium to even suggest that the developers listen to literally any feedback presented to them, even from the biggest XIV personalities. They've ignored us for years, only listening to, and implementing some of the easiest feedback requests ie; "Please introduce this item that only NPC's can wear. I want (Insert MSQ character here)'s gear set!".

They have not listened to any feedback in regards to jobs and the 2 minute meta. ESPECIALLY for healers. Yoshi P should apologise for telling them to do ultimates for an engaging experience.
They have not listened to any feedback concerning PvP changes, or adjustments to maps.
They have not listened to any feedback regarding the lack of satisfaction with accquiring EW welfare relic, and the lack of an exploratory zone.
They have not listened to any feedback about Island Sanctuary being a boring, glamour pinata that you ignore for 90% of a patch cycle.
They have not listened to any feedback from even their own streamers regarding a general lack of casual grind content in EW so far.

If the developers were listening to anything being said here, they should communicate with us, or acknowledge that they're here and providing any reasonable suggestions posted here to the JP dev team. That is not happening. They are openly, willingly ignoring the most passionate members of their community who want nothing more than for the game to be improved even slightly. This is absolutely one of the worst things the dev team of a major MMORPG can do. The end result of ignoring your playerbase is a game at its core, that is boring, and unrewarding to play. This display of arrogance, and overconfidence in the dev team will produce a similar experience to modern day WoW.

Before Square white knights come marching out, we provide feedback to improve the game, not inhale copium and pretend there aren't issues with the game that should be addressed. The wholesome echo chamber is on reddit.

Hilariously, they barely even do this. I think that one guy's still waiting for the chocobo feet the Chocobo Racing Gold Saucer attendant wears. It's been what, 6 years?
