It would be fantastic if the forums (and mainsub) didn’t act like this was somehow a good thing or something that they should defend

If the devs make unpopular changes (5.0 healers for example) they should be forced to defend their decisions not have half the playerbase that’s willing to praise them doing literally nothing or even defending them releasing less content

i honestly can't think of another industry where customers are such paypigs lmao, i feel like it's really just the entertainment industry, no other industry gets away with this, ff14 honestly isn't even the worst, there are gamers out there who unironically defend activision or supercell selling lootboxes to children and get them hooked and use their parents credit card, it's wild

Makes me think of literally every gacha game in existence. Like when Honkai Star Rail came out and people were praising it to high heaven, despite the predatory as all heck monetization.

This is because people don't realize when ever they buy "digital goods" , they are not really buying anything or obtain anything. It is all smoke and mirrors.
Imagine you go to any real store, you buy clothes, but the moment you leave the store your clothes you just bought are gone, and you can only wear them inside the store, you can keep the receipt though, and when the store eventually closes you also cant use the clothes anymore.
You are essentially paying a service that can be replicated to infinity and has no actual value, all the prices in the shops are made up, you can argue it takes more time for a dev to make a mount than a pet so the mount costs more money, but what is the justification for a mount to cost 30$ or 10$.

Well, if such a large portion of the playerbase is still enjoying it and happy to praise the dev team, perhaps the changes aren't that unpopular? Or, does the unpopularity of something get magically magnified because you specifically didn't like it?

And we circle back to our favourite topic of conversation, striker refuses to acknowledge the healer role has been a functional walking corpse for 2 expansions

Let me take you back to 5.0 launch, we got a popular new DPS and a popular new tank and they decided to do an incredibly unpopular change to healers, at that point healers were in such short supply as a healer you could queue for literally anything at any time and it would pop for you, this is to say nothing of the job satisfaction surveys falling off a cliff, lower levels of healers after ShB and squares refusal to acknowledge if

I hope I don't sound preachy but I think there are too many people who think the Devs don't listen. I'm not a very important person but I do think we need to remind ourselves that the FFXIV Dev Team listen to us, they always have.

Yoshi-P has apparently said the FF16 negative feedback is "tiring" because so much of it is filled with insults, threats, and offensive yelling. As a result it appears he's mostly clueless as to why people are upset with the game in the first place and just writing it off as those people just being haters of the game having a "Dark Story" and action game based combat.

I think he's being rather deceptive. Whenever something happens that proves controversial, he points to the most aggressive of critics as a deflection tactic. From what I recall, during the marketing phase there was a lot of feedback towards the combat against regular enemies looking to be rather shallow and without much difficulty. It was the very same 'content creators' who he props up with personal favours and meet-and-greets who aggressively insulted anyone who dared criticise the 'best game ever' even if they were exceptionally civil.

A lot of his own commentary proved to rub people the wrong way such as throwing FFXV under the bus and claiming that the use of the word 'JRPG' was 'offensive' (only to later backtrack).

In general, there's a lot of constructive feedback to be found. He simply doesn't seem to see it or pretends not to see it. Or perhaps those in charge of marketing and gathering feedback aren't actually handing him sensible feedback. Who knows for sure?
