True. Also will be interesting to see if 7.0 gains as much as it could possibly lose in that scenario. Ik one of the biggest turn offs to people coming to play even to this day is the commitment to get to current expac. 7.0 being a new starting point according to Yoshi could be a genius move in that regard to help ease that barrier of entry.

If those people will leave, potential success of this game will lie with the Second Life players and those who sub for few months per expansion to do MSQ. If SE wants their game to go that direction, go for it, but this success will be on the shoulders of all the modders which make this game viable alternative to Second Life. It will be another Skyrim, which is boring and barebones, until community makes it playable with all the mods.

While I agree with some of this, this kind of devalues console players when they're a nice chunk of the playerbase. They mess around and rp n such without mods just fine. For the game to become akin to Skyrim folks would have to not have fun with what the game offers anymore. Skyrim doesn't get updates (to my knowledge). XIV does. Also since when has XIV ever been unplayable and where/how would that ever happen in this game? Just wondering

They clearly don't value midcore players, or people that do want to play an actual MMORPG. What makes you think console players are any different? And I don't mean that game right now is unplayable, but if the game goes in this direction and 7.0 will have new start, with current cadence of content? Then yes, there will be not many things to do, especially for midcore players, so community will be divided even more into Limsa Dwellers and raiders, without anything in between.

I see that him saying the most bland, obvious thing anyone with common sense could come up with, but ending up treated as some prophet, is still his thing. Unless he starts to speak about real life things of course, then it goes full 180.

I consider myself midcore and things are fine to me. Ofc that's opinions. Much of what you expressed doesn't apply to everyone. And my point still stands. Console take part of these spaces just fine. If you have literally nothing to do that is in fact partially the players problem. It's never a question there being something to do, it's willingness or want to do said things. No real right or wrong there.
I don't Limsa dwell nor do I raid. I run things that I find fun.

Skyrim mods are infinitely more sophisticated than FF14 mods though. FF14 mods are mostly just glams and UI. Skyrim mods change the entire gameplay:

FF14 will never reach Skyrim levels because whatever modders do they can't change how horrible and braindead job design is (except maybe MNK and BLM), how one-note and stale modern raid design is, and how unincentivized gameplay content is like Criterion. Skyrim mods can actually improve the gameplay. FF14 can't.

Sad to say but modded Skyrim is unironically more fun than FF14 in 2023 rofl

years ago I played Star Wars Galaxies, and SOE released an expansion that radically changed the game, and saw a massive amount of people leave the game, the head of SOE at the time basically said, "dont let the door hit you on the way out"

the game was never changed back. players never came back.

the response of those at the top is unpredictable if they think they are right. granted years later he said "it was a mistake" but after many years, did it really matter? nope, because the mistake was never corrected.

Yoshi isn't perfect but he doesn't strike me as the dude to say or do that. It's clear he wants to make a game folks enjoy so I don't see this scenario happening with XIV. Anything is possible ofc but this is very unlikely.
I'll also day I don't forsee 90% ever leaving this game considering most of the player is more casual. To push those folks out you'd have to take a more hardcore approach and introduce long grind that turn these folks off which SE doesn't seem to want to do.

Also Asmon isn't wrong but like...thats the equivalent of saying water is a liquid. Most companies will turn around when many people leave. So I don't credit that logic to Asmon and I think that's what Carin means
