When to start using materia if at all.

I am in the beginning of the game but I see this materia msq quest and then in character profile page I see people having this materia in their gear .when should I start worrying about this materia ?
I don't plan on doing extremes or savages but I will definitely do lvl 90 other endwalker stuff when I reach that point .

Materia can generally be ignored while leveling, but there's also no reason not to use it if you have it. Materia Melder NPCs in any major city can attach them for you, can they can even be removed to use again later when you replace your gear.

That said, it's not really all that important while leveling. It only matters more when you hit the level cap and stop replacing your gear every 15 minutes.

If you can't put the materia in yourself (because your crafters arent high enough in lvl) then don't bother (unless of course an fc member or so does it for you). You don't want to spend gil for that.

One thing about materia: getting materia back isn't always 100% and putting it in also isn't if you pentameld.

If you want just put the highest for a given stat into your gear once you hit "was an endgame level" gear. Not really usefull to put materia in if your items are < ilevel 130

This means you'll never have to use materia; it's simply not necessary outside of the content you've stated you're uninterested in.

It's not worth worrying about until max level because you keep upgrading your gear before then.

You would probably get away without materia even in challenging content unless you were doing it in the first weeks, but it is recommended to use it for that at least because it is respectful to be doing your best and bringing your all.
