Having you fight the Shadowkeeper in wolf form preserves the mystery, although if you've done the quests you appreciate the reference to Cylva's sword.

Also the shape of the "true form" shadow is an elf rather than a wolf.

Mostly agreed; I played Chrono Trigger about a year or so before I first did 7. So, when I first played, I was hoping for a sort of Lovecraftian Eldritch horror mind controlling her children. Expecting to lose Cloud at some point like we lost Crono, I was expecting him to turn into a major enemy we have to beat some sense into before taking down Jenova. Heck I had thought we might also be able to get Sephoroth to join the good guys for an epic showdown…..but noooope.

Too bad, but I guess it’d have been too similar to Chrono Trigger…


I hope they do it justice eventually, but for now I dunno. Rather than world ending doom and gloom I’d really just like an Indiana Jones esque adventure with fairly small but intimate stakes.
