I mean it's pretty clear they are holding Sephiroth back atm. I don't think it's a matter of if, but rather when. Sephiroth is probably their trump card if they deem the game needs a pick-me-up. Or they don't want to undermine the fight with Sephiroth by using him to early in the game's lifespan. Love or hate him, you have to admit that he serves as a valuable asset for the game. Once Sephiroth is used, a lot of the people that waited for him will probably move on thinking there isn't anything cooler left to fan service into the game besides him.

Meh Sephiroth is way overrated. He was like a huge step backwards from Kefka who actually succeeded in doing what he wanted forcing you to spend the latter half of FF6 picking up the pieces of your failure. If you want a good ultimate battle with a superior swordsman they should do a Dragon Quest collab where you fight Psaro instead. Would tie in nicely timewise if they did it now to build some extra hype for the upcoming DQ Monsters game on the switch where you basically play as Psaro as a kid before he became the master of monsterkind.

More likely to be Shinryu tbh since they've put in every expansion's main MSQ boss as ult so far.
You know, Ultima and Thordan...

A few think Shinryu Ult might have been the Ult they mentioned having to push to side after having issues putting it together. So dunno if its totally scrapped or on a "well try again later" deal.
