Reinstall??

I'm getting nowhere in the tech support forum, so this is my last avenue. Did the 90G restore, accomplished nothing other than sucking up some bandwidth (fortunately I have unlimited). Not sure the difference is between this and a "re-install." NEVER having had to reinstall any game for misbehavior, I am unsure of exactly what to do to "re-install" so I could use some help there.

Di I just toss one folder or ue the win function to uninstall. Or maybe SE has an uninstall application?

If you go in add or remove there would be option to uninstall the game .also instead of restore I would first uninstall the game and then install the game through launcher .
For overwolf you also have to remove it through add or remove option .

"Add or Remove Programs" shows a "Final Fantasy XIV Online," dated 3/9/2021 with version 1.0. Is that correct? Yeah, I got rid of overwolf half a dozen crashes ago.

There was no link to an article in your post. I DID come across a FAQ from SE BUT it pointed to "remove or rename the 'Final Fantasy XIV' folder in the 'My Documents' → 'My Games' folder and I have no such "My Documents" folder. Another thing I read said too use a FFXIV Uninstall exe but nothing like that exists either.

Often times game issues are caused by corrupt configuration files. These are not typically removed by the uninstall process. The good part is you can delete (or temporarily move them for testing) without doing anything else. The bad part is you will lose all your UI/Macro settings unless you have backed up to the server recently (Always do this semi regularly). For testing, I recommend cutting and pasting the folders to the desktop, XIV will automatically replace them.

Navigate to Local Disk (C ) > Users > Usernamehere > Documents > MyGames > FINAL FANTASY - A Realm Reborn

In this folder you will see a number of folders named FFXIV_CHR00insertrandomnumberletterstring as well as FFXIV.cfg , FFXIV_BOOT.cfg

Cut and paste these to the desktop (just testing right now, so preserve these) Launch FFXIV and see if the problem resolves.

Now we are getting somewhere… absolutely I regularly back up my settings… so easy to try what you suggest. Should I ditch that folder, then do a restore from the saved settings before launching the game?

I have historically just cut the whole folder and pasted to the desktop, but that was before server backups were a thing. If you're backed up do it however you like. I just hope it works, this game can be soooo frustrating to diagnose.

Ffxiv is normally installed in program files x86 folder not my games or my document folder
Also sorry for late response I had some irl shenanigans today

Not to mention someone in my FC says an uninstall also wipes that folder (with my configs) out. Frankly I don't trust win10 at all, so it doesn't surprise me some built in function may not work as expected. BUT following you suggestion, I don't have to download 90G like I already have!

Crap, this thing is going to fight me all the way... I fail to see the "Users" folder in File Explorer but I DO see my folder. Cut does exactly nothing. I DID manage to copy it to my desktop BUT when I went to delete it, it said it would be because permission. I do NOT see any way to "run as administrator" by right clicking on it. Thought maybe click on the exe, BUT File Exploder tells me it doesn't exist. Eventually I found it (search gave a ton of results), raan as admin, it launching what I take is another instance BUT same issue, tells me I can not delete it without permissions (oh I had googled and none of the "advice" was correct until I hot the 5th or 6th one and managed to FIND the app... whoa, if I rename it I CAN delete it. Lets see what happens now!

<big expletive deleted> well that didn't work. Think maybe cause I had saved those backups while I was having my crashing issues. I did save off the FFXIVconf.fea file but I suspect it has the same crap in it... I wonder of I overwrote the file might there be any way to retrieve it (I looked in trash)?

NOW I see a way and I got back that file from 03/2023!
