Inconsistent use of the em dash (—) spacing rules

These examples are taken from the ALC and WVR job questlines, so respective spoiler warnings.

So the issue I have is the remarkedly inconsistent use of the em dash's spacing rules. In proper English writing, unless you are a newspaper, it is customary to not have a space after an em dash (—) (not to be confused with the shorter en dash (–)). However, the em dash in FF14's English localization is sometimes used correctly (spaceless) and sometimes used incorrectly (with a space after it):

P.S. I have no idea why imgur flagged the album as potentially having "adult imagery", I promise you, it doesn't.

At least in the examples you provided, the spaceless em dashes are those used to provide a clarification, amplification, or digression. When they instead represent a complete interruption, there is a space after. When using an em dash to represent a complete interruption, a space can be added after the em dash to represent a slightly longer pause than just the em dash on its own. This rule of em dash spacing is probably not mentioned in your style guide because scholarly writing does not typically allow for complete interruptions to thoughts the way that natural dialog does.

Unless there are examples where there are spaces after an em dash that supplements rather than interrupts, I would call everything fine.

I've always found em dashes ugly without spaces around them -- I think it joins the words together too much. They need the space around them.

And there's at least one instance of a voice actor seeming to read them as if they were hyphens joining words together tightly, and speaking them quickly instead of giving them the pause they're supposed to convey.

Edit: Having said this, I've just copy-pasted some text from a quest into a text box here to write a post, and the spell checker is actually objecting to words with an em dash between them as if they were a hybrid word.
