Sorry, but chasing down player and using Aetheric Mimicry is...silly. Just cycle the jobs each time you cast? Might even cause people to use in more interesting ways during play?

Chasing down? Just port to Limsa....at any given time there are a dozen each healers/tanks/dps there....
At the very least they should put "mimicry dummies" or something near the BLU NPCs.
Would be cool if we could actually go in the Blue Mage guild's door and find all sorts of things there, including a 'regular' tank and healer hired by Martyn for a scammy price just to be there (for Mimicry reasons).
Honestly, I don't have an issue finding people to mimicry in Limsa or Sharlayan instantly, but I wish Aetherial Mimicry was actually an innate job spell learned early on. We all say that BLU has 24 slots to put spells on, but in fact it's 23 because one is always with mimicry no matter which build you choose.
Also having it as base job spell would make it more beginner friendly, because it's so easy to overlook it while you're leveling and it's a crucial spell for the role to function.
I'm with the OP on this. While it IS possible to find a healer somewhere, it should just cycle. It isn't like you get a specific ability if you mimic a MCH vs a SMN. There is no difference, just the role itself that buffs certain job abilities. I get the lore behind it, since it is rooted in earlier FF games where a character could Mime the abilities of another character. So, you'd need that other character present. And that's likely why it is the way it is. But if you just popped on BLU and wanted to do some content with the healer mimicry, it would be nice to NOT have to seek one out.
Adding dummies wouldn't help much when you're already surrounded by people to copy (or you're not, which is why you're constantly teleporting to a city to press a button, hence why people have issues with it). This is exacerbated by having to turn it off when switching layouts, and not being able to re-apply it if you accidentally turn it off in duties. Not a problem for DPS in groups, but it's bad enough that tanking/healing as BLU is as underwhelming as it is.
At the same time, the very name of the spell suggests they won't turn it into a zero-effort toggle. It's likely going to stay as it is, if it isn't changed entirely.
I would go as far as to make Mimicry an interface where you choose to Tank/Heal/DPS, it also avoids the silliness that sometimes occurs when people don't bring the correct role...now it's correctable. You can only do it outside of combat even in an instance anyway, so would it really be broken? Not really.
Not to mention making an actual LB that works based on which Mimicry you have between the three jobs, and if they can figure out how to fix the spaghetti, make Mimicry actually make you Blue/Green/Red in the roles. Easier to join PF as that kind of role, but also prevents the weirdness that occurs in some content like Diamond Weapon where it randomly attacks everyone because were technically a DPS class, or the Eternity Eden raid where the tankbusters can't properly target people because there's no definitive tank.
That's just Mimicry, not even going into how Tank Mimicry should make Tank Augmented skills instant cast...
*Job effectiveness will vary depending on player skill
Agree, which would be another reason to make Mimicry a base job action rather than a blue magic slot. They could also lock you in the role itself for party composition arrangements.I would go as far as to make Mimicry an interface where you choose to Tank/Heal/DPS, it also avoids the silliness that sometimes occurs when people don't bring the correct role...now it's correctable. Currently, the way I've seeing people do this in the Party Finder, and it works well, is to create a group with the normal tank/healer/dps roles and add a note "Join as your role and switch to BLU afterwards" - this largely avoids the awkward situation of "Soo... who's tanking?" and then, crickets.
would like the option to pick the jobs listed once learned.
