Can we dial back the moderation a bit, mods?

Just because you CAN do something, doesn't always mean you SHOULD. I even agree that these threads typically don't go well, but if FFXIV and something else are mentioned in the same breath, it's pretty clear the author is making some kind of connection between the two and it isn't automatically off topic discussion.

I have to note that the two threads that were killed had completely deviated from being related to XIV (the first thread became Tera-hating alone and the other thread became discussion about FF in general and there were a few trolls filtering in)

Hmm I'm somewhat in between on this. It seems to me that what has gotten locked lately has deviated off topic to the point of starting flamewars or not even being ffxiv related at all. However I hope this doesn't become the norm. I mean how else can we give proper feedback if the best way to do it for X situation is to compare it to Y game?

It seems threads are being locked for FFXIV on-topic references to other games.

Its bizarre and just really random. I would understand if there was some reason applied, but there's no intelligence shown - just ban everything.

And now as the result of those threads being locked we have this one.

The admin should have first provided a basic warning reminding people from straying a bit too far off topic. Not just locking the threads abruptly. That's seen as abuse of power. If threads continue to be locked without restraint people will become hesitant to post topics in fear that they will be locked or removed. And that is not good for anyone.

As always, I am forever looking for ways to improve my CS to our loyal customers. I have done a review and I see we have been locking/closing a few more threads than we have in the past. I wanted to address a few of your concerns, as there have been some valid points made.

I would like to think that we have not become "more aggressive" in our moderation, but with summer we do have more traffic through the boards and more items get reported. Thus, you may be seeing more Mod action than earlier in the year. Also, during last summer, we did not have as many folks visiting, so you may not have seen as many threads locked.

In regards to my comment I made about "other games", I hope that was not taken as too heavy handed. The main thing I wanted folks to take away from that post was that we still want your ideas, but in the posts it is best NOT to advertise our competitors games or products. The Feedback Email Support I mentioned is read and reviewed each day; I know most folks think it is a bottomless void, but I can say with 100% certainty that your emails are read.

We just want to foster a fun environment for everyone and we try to keep the boards civil and fun but we do have new people coming in and we want to present the best possible FINAL FANTASY XIV and Square Enix experience as possible. But, coming into a Forum that has "FFXIV should take X game's Ideas" just isn't very professional.

As for the thread about Tanaka's, we will more than likely keep that open as it is apropos, just as the Earthquake thread was last year.

I truly understand, and thank you, for the concerns you have shown and I really want to make this the best boards for you, but we do have rules to enforce.

I am going to leave this thread open, as it is a valid point and good feedback. I just ask that you keep the conversation civil.

I agree wholeheartedly with this, if anyone is flipping out over 2~3 threads getting locked in 2~3 days as a big deal they are over-exaggerating the situation. If we as a forum community can't self moderate ourselves from turning every thread into a flame war then the appointed mods locking a thread is for the best. Thank you Jhanaka for posting a response to why it is happening but people should really read the rules and understand why their thread got locked because they broke them.
