LOL, I was going to say something to the extent of since a lot of us are complaining about an FFXI clone why would we want a clone of FFXII and Tactics. Quite honestly I don't even want a complete FFXI clone now somethings I wouldn't mind having like the game aka being able to kick people out of the ls when they're not on and such or not when they're right next to you but story and races and all that i wouldn't mind seeing some different playable ones.

if I remember straight, not only was it so XI players could recreate their character, but at one time I think it was mentioned that the plan was to allow us to port our XI characters in, not just the name, and even log into XIV from XI... All really ambitious and eventually scrapped.

Yup the original idea was you could take your player and hop back and forth between XI and XIV but they said it was way too complicated. They probably brainstormed and picked the idea apart until all that was left was your name and face would transfer over so they just scrapped the idea.

One of the first criticisms I had about FF14 was the fact that they basically copied everything from FFXI and changed names. To this day, people in-game will refer to 'Galkas' , 'Mithra' and 'Tarus' instead of their proper FF14 names.

I wonder, wouldn't the next big FF MMO have been better suited to take place in a different world? Sure, Eorzea is a different world... but is it -really-?

What if the game took place either IN Ivalice or just a world fashioned after Ivalice? Instead of Galka, how about Seeq? Instead of Mithra, wouldn't Viera be a welcome change? Replace the Taru with the playable Moogle race, or perhaps the wise Nu Muo? And surely the Bangaa would be an impressive alternate to Elvaan . . and you even get to keep your more generic Humans for the play-it-safe crowd.

I know this has probably been discussed before, but as a life-long FF fan my heart literally aches just thinking about this missed opportunity.

I agree 100%.. Its a total missed opportunity.

In fact, I suspect that an Ivalice world may have even been internally considered during the 'Project Rapture' stages of the game, (Akihiko Yoshida's art style and direction certainly point to it) - but the number-crunchers at SE felt that this game needed to give FFXI players something familiar, and thus the inclusion of quasi-Vana races -- a decision that brought unforeseen expectation baggage to FFXIV 1.0 and contributed to its panning IMHO.

But that's history, and we have what we have. At this point, it's best to get behind Yoshi-P's vision for the game - that is, a them-park homage to the FF series. (an idea I'm becoming quite fond of) We will see some Ivalice references here and there (maybe even Viera), but Eorzea won't and shouldn't be Ivalice.

I would rather that SE make the next FF MMO set in Ivalice and do it properly (eg. bring Yasumi Matsuno in as a consultant). But that is 8 years away at least...

as a non FFXI player, I dont have any problem with the race is re-use, it is like another story or a follow story
