I've seen a recent resurgence of people finally warming up to Lyse. I mean considering the track record of many of the "ehh" quality of npcs the story has.Doesn't help that Monk had to share its poster boy slot with its younger and more popular brother, Samurai.
The job is infamous for being shafted by SE at pretty much every opportunity they can give. No 7th Chakra, no 14th/Light/Dark Chakra, no aura effect that other MNK NPCs have, middling job quest story with no actual relation or pay off to the liberation of Ala Mhigo (despite Widargelt's connection to Ala Mhigan royalty, too), the MSQ Monk rep is one of the most divisive and hated characters in the game, so on and so forth. It has a long history of this kind of stuff.
I think it's about time people starting to realize that FFXIV's characters aren't as deep as they once thought

Hmm...Id say the Closest Ones are probably Urianger, and maybe Fordola.....Im not sure if I wanna Count Emit Hermes or G'Raha. To be honest this is me just trying to remember everything from every character.
From Memory, every character is pretty straight Foreword. Which isn't necessarily a Bad thing. Sometimes its nice and refreshing when things are Simple.

I guess not deep but as in they're written well? Much of the cast is filled with the usual standard tropes which isnt a bad thing at all. I just personally never found them outstanding but rather above average which is still good.People thought FFXIVs characters were Deep?

But the language that people criticize Lyse for makes it seem like she's the sole outlier in the msq despite the quality in her character being up to par with the rest of the Scions. Like where are the Alisaie criticizers who arguably shares the same sort of stubborn personality as she does and is just as insufferable at a glance, yet everyone is head over heels for her? Or Ardbert and his team whom while they had tragic backstories and felt like good people still had inconsistent personalities between HW and ShB. Like why would they quickly go to be simple world murderers and easily manipulated by the same bad guys whom clearly put themselves in that situation!? Actually makes no sense character wise even if the explanation is that "oh they had nothing to lose anymore". Its just as bad as how the Injustice games handle the superheroes being evil, just because Superman had his one "bad" day. Anyway off tangent
Everyone in this game is either a solid 80 or a mid 60. Both good and passable but never the best imo.
Lyse herself wasn't the problem, the problem was that the narrative itself wanted to treat her like this sort of messiah when she most definitely was not, she was literally just the poster girl both of the expansion and the ingame revolution.

This is the part that really bugged me during Stormblood. I get that there's probably very few people who hold any love or reverence of the last King of Ala Mhigo, but surely there's some faction that wants a return to the relative stability of the monarchy, right? In the past 2 decades the country went from monarchy, to whatever interim government the rebels installed, to invasion and occupation by the Empire, then to a council led by Lyse (whose only qualification for leadership is that her father was a big player in the first revolution). Why do we never even hear a peep from them? Or on the flipside, why do the people who hated the monarchy never even consider if there's an heir out there who needs to be dealt with, one way or the other?
It just seemed like a really big missed opportunity. They do finally address it at the end of Shadowbringers' Monk quest, where it's acknowledged and then swiftly moved on from.
Oh, and Rhalgr doesn't even have any lines or little dialogue boxes for when we smack him in the 24-man. I'm challenging the Monk god to an arm-wrestling contest -- as a Monk -- and nobody has anything to say about it? =/
If someone wins an argument, they have learned nothing.
FOR DOCKHAND!
