I haven't seen bots in dungeons either.
Out in the world yes I see them but not in dungeons.
I once played on an alt and while leveling it through some early game dungeons, I got into one of the starter dungeons with 2 people who both had similar gibberish names with light variations at the end. One was a healer and one was a tank. They both moved around in a circle and then immediately left while the other dps and I just scratched our heads, waited a few minutes for it to find replacements, and ultimately disbanded when the system couldn't find anyone. It was the first and only time I've seen that happen. I think maybe he was a dummy who queued in with a group when he meant to queue alone lmao

That's quite possible. Most bots queue in solo into instances so that they can get a carry.I once played on an alt and while leveling it through some early game dungeons, I got into one of the starter dungeons with 2 people who both had similar gibberish names with light variations at the end. That said, since Lost City is not an MSQ required dungeon, it makes no sense that a bot would queue up for it. They are usually grinding through MSQ to unlock later profitable zones, or to sell a fully leveled 90 account on the black market. Unrequired side content is just wasted time for either of those tasks.
They used to spam the old Amdapor Keep for some reason (to the point where they actually clogged up Duty Finder spamming it; I think because they could clear the first room in under 5 minutes back when the trash mobs gave exp and gil.)
It's almost more likely that OP just had an instance full of newbies or scrubs than bots.
ARR+ doesn't even use Crystal Tools, really: it's a bespoke hammered together ship of Theseus made out of the bones of Crystal Tools, pre-pro Luminous Engine, and those unlucky programmers who got close enough to its core; glued together with thousands of hours of 'anything goes as long as it works' breakneck labor. It's janky because they're building the track under the train as it runs, not because of relics from 2010. (Mostly.)

Most likely noobs than bots tbh. Or people on consoles who can't chat.
I imagine some people don't chat at all, given that. Personally can't imagine not having a keyboard alongside the controller. Tbh this is the first I've heard of bots, but I also assume FFXIV players can be pretty lacking. Would explain some of the weird radio silences, though.
Is there anywhere you can read more about this? Was always curious what happened to Crystal and what succeeded it.ARR+ doesn't even use Crystal Tools, really: it's a bespoke hammered together ship of Theseus made out of the bones of Crystal Tools, pre-pro Luminous Engine, and those unlucky programmers who got close enough to its core; glued together with thousands of hours of 'anything goes as long as it works' breakneck labor. Try wikipedia
"Though members of the Final Fantasy XIV development team worked on Luminous, Yoshida admitted that both Luminous and Crystal Tools were optimized for offline games and could not handle an online environment with hundreds of on-screen character models.[40] Though Version 2.0 uses a "completely different engine", he called the Luminous engine and the 2.0 engine "siblings" due to similarities in their structure."
It was also hinted in a more recent tech demo that FF16 is based on the FF14 engine. SE just limits it and does all this stuff on purpose, or occasionally because the original programmer left and didn't comment their code well.
In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

I have seen Blizzard 1 spam bots back in the day, but none recently and I run roulettes daily.
