What are you paying a subscription for?

From what I read in 5 minutes it doesn't have flying or housing, the combat system isn't turn based and you aren't playing in a world full of other players.

Right now in FFXIV I have a housing and Gil project going on, trying to make as much Gil I can so I can decorate the house. The crafting and market systems are always keeping me busy. I'm also buying things for my collections and doing weekly raids to get the new gear for glamour. There's no reason for me to play another game right now, even if it was free. That would be time spent away from the game I actually want to play.

If the MMO Private Server project gets finished it'll probably have all that too. Minus the Turned Based.

FFXIV's $13 a month is easily excusable considering that it's easier to use than Second Life and VRChat for [redacted], which are both free but highly complex. One can [redacted] and [redacted] with great ease, and the UI for [redacted] in FFXIV is much smoother and more intuitive. I've tried both alternatives and SL is dead and VRChat is too janky. Square Enix's "blind eye" has been a second wind for FFXIV and it's a boon for artists and [redacted] creators.

If you're actually expecting a video game here though, that's just sad.

I pay because I enjoy the game enough to keep paying. I can log in for a couple of hours, run a few roulettes, and then log off when I don't feel like continuing today. I've taken a few breaks, but so far I've always come back.
