    I've been thinking

    If I was a FF14 dev responsible for pvp (I'm not), and as a dev if I saw the state of pvp balance in my own game (which I haven't), I'd be pretty disappointed in myself.

    Such would be my disappointment I'd probably take two recourses.

    1) start playing my own game

    2) start doing balance adjustments every week, doing minor taps here and there to start bringing everything in line.

    Now granted, that cant make up for the massive class design oversight they have in the game, but at least to balance things out a bit more.

    It would be a point of personal pride imo.

    The overall balance in CC is really good though... Like small adjustments aside, its probably one of the more balanced MMO PvP modes I've played in a long time. Some jobs are weaker than others, but they have for the most part got everyone tuned to a pretty viable state. You can be unhappy with certain decisions *cough* bard silence nerf *cough*, while still acknowledging the 5v5 overall is pretty balanced. (Asking for frontlines to be balanced is stupid btw. It's impossible to balance a mode with that many players)

    Agreed. CC at least, they got to a point that what wins you matches is more about whether or not the players with you are good enough, rather than what jobs they're at. I've been in comps with what's considered 'meta' jobs being completely destroyed by a non meta team.

    I understand the problems of large scale PVP, and how frustrating and chaotic it can be, but truth be told, I have that same feeling in WoW for example - I guess it's the nature of the mode. I just wish we had another small scale option, because just CC gets old eventually.

    Asking for at least an aoe cap or some more potency/dr adjustments for fl is fine, it'll never be properly balanced due to the large amount of people, but there are real easy things to do with fl that would improve it a lot.

    If they capped AoE in frontlines, its possible that everyone would be harder to kill. Almost every match would end in a time out and feel like Borderlands since the path to victory would be skewed toward completing PvE objectives (since nobody is dying). Either the team sizes need to shrink, or the map size/mount speed needs to be adjusted so that its harder to get all 24 players in the same location at all points of the game. I think that would increase the amount of 8v8v8 fights around the map and reduce the amount of 24v24v24 fights per game, and by proxy reduce the amount of AoE damage and permanent crowdcontrol chains while still keeping a balance of players being killable.

    Changes like these might make Frontlines even harder for the casual "here for the xp/let 'em fight" player though, since smaller team fights mean the individual players action matters a little bit more. So not sure how they would feel about implementing anything like this considering the trend of the development team seems to be trying to dumb the gameplay down enough for everyone to enjoy. They did remove 8v8v8 frontlines for this reason in the past (pre-made teams brought more skilled players into a mode that was meant to be casual).

    Doing this allows you to reduce overall dr further as needed, mainly the melee jobs because that's the main reason they're way too tanky as is, because aoe is thrown around as much.

    Game is selling so balance is irrelevant. Its kinda been obvious that SE doesn't really take pride in this game anymore.

    It's the game as a whole that is the problem which isn't exclusive to PvP. They treat all of the content outside of the MSQ as a sideshow, lots of potential, all of it wasted. Islands, PvP, Criterion dungeons, Relics, you name it, they've dropped the ball on it, and rather than pick that ball up they'd rather just kick it down the street for future expansions to maybe pick up again. As long as the MSQ doesn't suck and the games selling this is the forseeable future for all content.
