"Material Storage" systems are becoming very common in "inventory management" game systems like MMOs and ARPGs, and this honestly is yet another area where FFXIV feels like it's falling way behind the times in terms of basic functionality.

And we have that whole “key item” section that could be used… I have a copy of Wondrous Tails, some hunt bills and a few relic quests items in there, but I never go past the second row. It’s unused inventory space that already exists that could be opened up to other things.

Key items is reserved space for important stuff and it's better to leave it be.

It would be great if SE gave us separate inventories for each category of items besides increasing the current capacity, they keep adding items but not more space to hold them.

Nothing I hate more than lots of clutter in my inventory. Agree with Eorzean that a material storage would be amazing.

I agree it will help alot.

Side note: Want to know something funny? Check you key items and see how much space it has

The slots in the key items tab is graphical and not actual slots that can be used. They addressed this in a Q & A in one of the LL and I believe it was brought back up when they were announcing that they were deleting belts and using those slots to expand some of the armoury chest tabs. You can see its graphical by changing your inventory settings, you can see slots being added or subtracted in the key item tab depending on your inventory size settings

This is a frequent request. Every time it comes up, the reply is "when we're able to expand inventory, it will always be general use". They don't want inventory space reserved only for players who participate in certain activities.

It's better to request more inventory space in general instead of separate inventory space for items related to X activity.

Until such time as more inventory space is added and/or SE changes how certain items are treated so they don't take up inventory space, we'll have to manage what we keep in inventory.

Think about it: by default, we get a total of 560 general use inventory spaces (does not include gear specific inventory space). What on earth are we doing that we need to have room for more than 560 different items?

Time to get rid of the stuff we aren't using. Items sitting unused in inventory is gil lost, not gil saved. You've got better ways to fill that space.

Fishing tackle: you don't need to keep all 60+ items. Keep the ones you use on a regular basis. The rest can be purchased when needed then vendored when you're done with that session. None of them are expensive, the common baits are usually sold by a vendor in the zones where they are used in addition to the major cities, and getting scrip for the scrip baits/lures is very easy with Ocean Fishing and Custom Deliveries. I keep about 8 that I use frequently in my Chocobo Saddlebag and that's it. Any others I buy only when I'm going to fish for something that needs them. Versatile lure is extremely handy for general use.

Crafting materials: Get rid of those Nopales and Obsidian you've been carrying around since level 10. You're never going to use them. Do the same with anything else (except the rare materials that come from treasure maps) that you aren't using on a weekly basis. The majority of crafting materials are very easy to get when you need them whether through gathering, vendors or marketboard so there's no need to hold onto them "just in case". Get what you need then sell anything leftover when you are done crafting your item(s). That inventory space could be going to better use.

Dyes: you don't need to keep samples of every dye in the game, especially if you spend just 10-15 minutes each day to get the rep unlocks with the ARR tribes. Keep only the most expensive General Purpose dyes on hand if you have them. Buy or craft the rest as needed. Again, sell or vendor the leftovers when you're finished with your dyeing.

Dark Matter: only keep the highest grade (or two if you're still leveling jobs) that you need. You don't need to keep all 8.

Potions: when is the last time you used them, outside of Tinctures for raiding? Sell or vendor what you haven't used.

Foods: same as potions. These get out of control thanks to the SE's habit of making them quest rewards so we end up with 15 different stacks of 3 at the end of the day's MSQ journey. Vendor them all except for the foods you're actively using for crafting, gathering and raiding. Keep a stack of cheap Boiled Egg or something similar if you're leveling jobs. You're now down to 6 or 7 inventory spaces for food instead of 25.

Magicked Prisms: sure they can be fun but are you really using any of them other than A Realm Reborn Red or Heavenscracker? Get rid of the ones that you realize you've never used and probably never will.

Raid/EX/FATE tokens: another don't keep them "just in case". Keep them only if you are actively farming the content to get a piece of gear, mount or whatever FATE reward. They are 100% useless when there is nothing you want to buy. If they're not from the current expansion, discard them right away if you have no specific purchase intent. Even if they are current, you're better off getting rid of them if you don't have a specific purchase in mind. If change your mind later, you can farm the tokens at that point.

Housing Furnishings: you really don't need to keep every furnishing you've ever purchased/crafted. If you don't have an item placed and you're out of room in the Storeroom, get rid of anything that can be easily obtained again. Desynthesize to get materials to sell or use, or vendor if it can't be desynthesized. Seasonal event items are generally the only ones you want to keep (assuming they fit your decorating style preferences - why keep the Moonfire Mask Stall if you're never going to use it?).

If you've gone through your inventory, cleaned out everything you don't actively need and feel like you still don't have enough room...

    Get another retainer.

Yes, I know the usual "I shouldn't have to pay for inventory" arguments. But that extra $2/mo can be well worth it not just for the inventory space but because it's another 20 marketboard listings for you to sell items and make gil.

I've got a total of 5 retainers and it's not their inventory space that's full (most of my characters can easily get by with the inventory space on just 2 retainers). It's their marketboard listings that are full. Having the extra inventory space to neatly organize what items I do keep not to mention have plenty of room to shuffle furnishings around when I go to redecorate my house is just a bonus.

Here is the thing if they add more of solutions it would not be an issue. Why not add option to add dyes to the glamour dresser. Crafting bag would be good to have.

For instance i can gather an craft anywhere i need to with out holding on in the main bag or on my retainers. Or a gathering one take for instance the omicrons, since now you have a chance to get more of the item. you can prep for the next day.

Housing items very true but you know some people are cheap and don't want to buy them later on the mogstation

What about 24 man raid gear? Unless you truly organize a group just to that you either waiting for longer wait times or you might not get them. Take for instance the crystal tower gear. they just added another way of getting it via pvp.

It all boils down of you and other will tell people buy more retainers.
