the purpose of this thread is to point out these sorts of arguments are not as clever as they seem
ACT injects into FFXIV directly and uses deucalion to read network data
this is basically malware if instead of FFXIV it was your entire network

but hey let's continue to assume it's undetectable or that it's a multipurpose tool

You should consider a career in politics if you haven't already - I'm told there's always a need for more people willing to take a bunch of things they know exist but don't understand, and smash them together to say things that sound scary to the uninformed.

I just want to point out that ACT has plugins for EQ2, The Secret World, Rift, SWOTOR, Aion, and AoC. So it is indeed a multipurpose tool.

Dude, has anyone forgotten that this is SQUARE ENIX? It's one step away from being Sega. This isn't like Blizzard which can detect you running mods and disable them and as needed. It's SQUARE ENIX. That's like asking a gas station if they serve caviar. This is such a small company that it likely can't afford any kind of cheat detection whatsoever. They can't even afford to make good games.

I'm not sure if one step away from being SEGA is a good thing or a bad thing at this point.

The delusional thing is thinking that square enix have any power to stop modding and ACT.

The moment they do, the roleplaying playerbase go find another game to play, and square enix suffers multiple tens of millions in losses.

I still think modding ruins the game, but unfortunatly we have to live with it.

The GHub software for my logitech mouse let's you write an entire macro of key presses. And set it to repeat infinitely when pressed.. this could in theory allow you to fully automate huge crafting sessions (basically botting)

But for the average user that software most likely just binds R to mouse 4 or F to mouse 5 or changes the devices RGBs.

They can't ban you just because a piece of software exists on your system. They'd need evidence of you using it maliciously (according g to there tos)
This is the key point people aren't getting.

They don't care you have X software, and they probably don't even care if you are using it within FFXIV 99% of the time.

HOWEVER, if you are caught using it or are using it maliciously/in an obvious manner (botting en masse, streaming publicly), you are in violation of the rules and subject to whatever punishment.

    It's a lot like this: there's a difference between:
    A) a 16 year old drinking some champagne on New Years in the privacy/security of their own home with family around, and
    B) an underage party with alcohol at Steve's house 'cause his parents are on a trip.

Both illegal, but in A it's being kept on the DL, it's being done safely/as responsibly as possible so nobody cares.

If you're using the Bard music thing at an event with friends, nobody cares. If you get into a pissing contest with someone in the middle of Limsa...yeah maybe don't do that.

And on that, being world first in taking out an ultimate is similar to a pissing contest on that (a bit more difficult though).

But on a positive note, as long as people dont notice it, its barely an issue anyway. Even if they use it, it might not disrupt anything for those that dont use it. The experience can just remain the same. So on that end, it doesnt realy need to be that strict. Just targeting the worst offenders is generaly going to be enough.

ACT, while being illegal, is still something that can attract wow players to start playing this game. As those players are used to have such information. That it can harm their own experience is not an issue, if it does it teaches them to uninstall anyway (or maybe tune it down? (dont know what is possible in ACT).

But thats a real key part: you are not allowed to disrupt the playing experience for others with those tools. Even if you use it and use it to optimize yourself, if someone doesnt use it, as long as you dont care, there is no issue there. It might make the content easier for that specific player, but as they dont know you use it, it will feel natural enough to them.
