This may be an unpopular opinion, but just like radar signals emitted from a police vehicle that I'm free to receive and do what I want with... same with data that comes through my router. If a user wants to listen to what's coming into their network and analyze that data, they should be free to do so. Information out in the ether is not granted some special status that no one else is allowed to view it. That's the point of encryption.

With that said, I stopped raiding years ago and have zero interest in DPS. But I do appreciate those sites that compile DPS figures so we can get an idea of which tank/heal/dps are doing the most damage, on average.

Yes you are free to check all the incoming data you want. However, SQEX is free to ban your account for you doing that to the data related to their game. It's not illegal for you to scan the game data, it's just against their rules. You won't get fined or go to prison, but you could lose the right to access their servers. Luckily, they don't really care that much.

I don't recall anyone ever saying they can't. I do know SQEX says they don't, not that they can't.

If SE could easily detect client-side processes all forms of botting/hacking would be a total non-issue, but considering that even obvious cheaters have gotten away unscathed for unacceptably long periods of time, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Then they're clearly lying when they say its not allowed then aren't they or every raider would be banned.

They can detect it but they are not allowed to due to Japanese laws preventing them from performing scans on other peoples computers. Yoshi P has himself said this is the reason.

they don't have to give any explanation as to why they ban or terminate your account
so there really isn't anything stopping them from just banning people who are constantly triggering errors and suspicious logs on their clients

When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.

They ban people who make it obvious, and the reason for the bans is typically they use ACT to harass others. It isn't the use of ACT that get people banned, thousands of people use it without ever being found out. It's harassment that does.
