This game is great

Always been a huge fan of Square Enix's games but never tried the Final Fantasy MMOs despite playing MMOs since I was a young lad. Played everything from both versions of Runescape to World of Warcraft to EVE to Lost Ark to GW2 to SWTOR.

This game is fucking good. I'm not even a fifth of the way through it expansion wise and I can tell you that. There's plot holes and shit but you have to nitpick to find them. It's not like other MMOs where they pretend to try to have a good story because they don't really want to have one at all. Other MMOs just have story for the sake of the content. You end up with parts of those stories being skipped or people groan as they go through them but not this game. It ain't just me either. People watch cutscenes in this game because they want to. Maybe I'm wrong and there's more unskippable cutscenes after the a realm reborn finale but you can skip everything else but no one does on their first time.

There's even a whole bunch of other regular side quests that don't give shit besides exp, items I might not use and gil but I've often ventured off and done them cause this game knows how to world build and tell stories.

Only just now getting into side content like beast tribes but the dailies feel gratifying. I looked up how much I'd have to do to max them out and it doesn't feel that bad compared to other game's dailies. I haven't even picked up a second job yet but the fact that I can log out and get bonus exp while taking a break is insane. Hell this game even has a lead developer that gives a shit about it. Yoshi P cried because his players weren't getting to play the game on the expansions launch supposedly. I'll take that over any blizzard dev any day lmfao.

This game is lit and you won't convince me otherwise. I can see why people praise it so much and why it's so easily recommended all the time.

Assuming you are a genuine newbie (and to be fair, there have been a number of 'fake' newbies here of late), Welcome!

Glad you are enjoying it, and it's nice to see that your enthusiasm led you here. And I, for one, agree. Whilst I've been playing the game for around 19 months now my enthusiasm for it hasn't dwindled much. The only thing I will say is that the Endgame' can feel a bit lackluster, and I highly recommend taking your time with the MSQ rather than trying to race to the 'Endgame' finish line.

I will say, though, that many of those who frequent the forum and have been around (both in-game and on the forums) for a long time will post/reply with far more cynicism than enthusiasm.

You haven't really hit any of the game's major pain points yet other than ARR being a bit of a slog. I am genuinely very curious to see if/how your opinion changes by the time you reach current patch and spend a bit of time at the endgame.

I started the trial a year ago but shit happened and I didn't make a lot of progress. Not sure why you're throwing a fit over it.

I wouldn't say they're throwing a fit over it, they're probably just showing a healthy bit of skepticism towards a post that admittedly does have a few red flags for being a bait post. Yes, the beast tribes aren't tedious and ask no more than 5-10 minutes of your time each day, while telling an interesting story about the beast tribe.

The same with the MSQ, where you are asked to kill no more than a few enemies instead of hundreds which just gets tedious. Dungeons usually ask no more than 20 minutes of your time as well.

All of this makes it easier to stop and take a break to eat, do house work or whatever else you need to do instead of being stuck in the middle of something that you can't stop all day.
